I was wondering if it is possible to do a direct swap of the grill from a 97-99 maxima to a 95 maxima without changing any other parts. I want to keep the same headlights, bumpers, etc, but was wondering if it is possible to do a direct swap of the grille.... any comments would be appreciated... thanks...

It will take minor customization,

otherwise unless you have a bra on your car it will see it sticking out a little.

Can be done, but you gotta change the bumper too.

I just know the headlight swap is possible. emax95: are you going to swap out the 95 bumper for the 97? I might do it. Only if it's not that expensive. My bumper is kind of messed up already, so that's why I'm thinking of getting the 97 bumper instead of getting the old one fixed. Hm...although I have to get new fog lights too. Dang, I wish I have more money.

No not going to bother,

because the front bumper would cost $150+120 for new fogs +$250 for a good paint job then add in the factor that I allready have the Stillen Body on my 95 bumper and it is not enterchangable with 97+,Anyways I will be kicking saving mode into high gear for a 02-03 Max.Later

So i now know its able to be done... but now.. how do i do it? does anyone have instructions on taking of the grille or modifying it to fit the 95/96 lights ? what would i use to make it fit?

or how about instructions to removing 95/96 headlights and installing 97-99 headlights if i choose the change the whole front?

Yep I was wondering the same thing here,

I think Cumalot a BIG****STUD may be related {No offense Cumalot your a cool guy}

Installation go out and by a 97 grill and 97 Headlights and you are good to go, check this site for great prices http://www.autodirectsave.com or if you realy have your heart set {or your big **** haha} you could go cheap like I originaly did and just buy the grill but you will have to shave about 2 millameters off the bottom of the grill and install a couple of screws to hold it in place properly.Good Luck !!

Doesn't your grill just pop off or screw off the headlight housing?

There are 4 screws holding the grille in place, two on top in the back, and two on the bottom. And like EMax said, you DO NOT HAVE to change the bumper.

I have the 97 headlights they fit nice
i also have the grille
putting the headlights in did not make the grille fit
as someone said above
it is too tall so shaving the right amount off bottom will do
but above it was stated switching the headlights would make the grille fit

Not to be offending but this info is false
grille is right here headlights are on and notta

I did this mod last weekend and it's quite simple. There's no need to change the bumper nor do you have to add any extra screws.

Directions:
1- Shave off ~1/8" of the 97+ lower grille posts
2- Pop off the old grille
3- Drill out the tab holes (~1/8") that hold the grille corners in
4- Take the 97+ grille and push firmly into place. Pops right in.

Maybe I'll post pics later on today. Thanks for the idea, Ethan.

You are ABSOLUTELY wrong emax!!!!! The grills most certainly DO have something to do with the bumpers!!!

grill is related to the bumper...but what emax is tryin to say is that the grill alone can be switched...w/ a lil trimming of the legs...

Well, unless I'm reading it wrong, I read that he feels there is no correlation of grill to bumper cover and that the '97/'99 is a direct fit on a '95/'96.

Dave,

Yeah, please post! I really dig the 97+ body-colored grill but don't know how it would look with the rest of my 95... Would love to see it on yours.

for a 95/96 bumper cover w/ the 97/99 grill is a direct swap with lil modification...now a 97/99 bumper cover with the 95/96 grill is a different story...look at my sig...

yea

I did this mod this past weekend. To make it fit I had to shave off a lot more than 1/8 of an inch off the bottom. It looks sah-weet though! I used a stone grinder in the roadshop at Circuit City where I work. Now on to other mods....

did you have to hack some off on the sides too or just on the bottom?

No, none off the sides just the bottom and angled the back of it to make it flush.

Yes shaving the outer grill 'legs' by ~1" will leave you with a ~1" gap later.

I have read details from another thread but I couldn't find it anymore so please bear with me and don't chew me out. I am upgrading the grill of my 95 Maxima to a 97+ grill.

I understand that the 97 grill is taller than the 95 one. In order to fit a grill off of a 97+ Maxima to a 95, I'd have to trim the legs correct? How much should I trim and which part of the legs, the upper (hood side) or lower (bumper side)? And after that, will the mounting holes align with what is on the front end framing of the 95 Max? Will I need to drill additional holes or do more to brace the grill down?

Thanks.
