1997 Nissan Maxima oil burning on exhaust

Hey everyone thanks for the ad. Newbie here I've got a 97 max I'm fixing up looking for a starting point I have the following codes: Even though car runs pretty well except for a bad oil leak dripping on the rear exhaust manifold which seems like valve cover gaskets?
P0110- IAT Sensor
P0325- Knock Sensor
P01320- Ignition signal
P01400- EGR solenoid valve

Take a look through the sticky here for your error codes if you havent done so already.

Next I would google "4th gen maxima" for your issue and start reading..
so for example "4th gen maxima Knock sensor issues/replacement"
i always do searches like that if im looking for a specific topic on the forum

I did go through the sticky on the error codes that's how I knew what half of them were since my scan tool said unspecified. I was just curious if one could cause the others or if the oil leak would be a clue for someone that's been through these cars. Is there something else that could cause the oil leak other than the valve covers?

More than likely its the rear valve cover gasket that is leaking. Next option would the upper oil pan and that one is a PITA. Knock sensor may be a "ghost code" that might have been triggered from another code. I would focus on the ignition signal one first and see what clears up as a result of that

I've got the valve cover gaskets and plugs already hoping that will fix some of the problems. When i cleared codes and went for a drive the 1st two that came up was P0110 and P1320. So that may corrolate with what you said about knock sensor.

If you are close to a junkyard/pick a part, i say go look for a maxima of your year and take the IAT sensor and install it on your car. Maybe your IAT sensor has gone bad? Really cant say much about it since i have a 95 and didnt come with it.

For your valve cover gasket, dont forget to use RTV on the corners closest to the timing chain. If you dont it, highly likely it will begin leaking again. When i first had the leak, i took it a shop and they did a ****ty job, they either forgot about the RTV or they didnt use enough of it. I said **** it and did it myself over a weekend. I used a good amount of black RTV and hasnt leaked since

If the valve cover gasket nearest to firewall is leaking, you'll probably want to also do other maintenance items associated with the removal of intake that would give you easy access to.
