Power Steering Hose Replacement

Lost the power steering the other day, popped the hood to find the power steering reservoir nearly empty. There was a leak at the back of the engine, in the space between the engine and the wall. Seemed to be under pressure, as fluid was shooting out. Not being a mechanic but having worked on my car many times in the past I'm not sure how to go about diagnosing and repairing this and if I should take this on.

Where would the leak most likely be coming from and how hard of a job would this be ? I believe it's the Maxima 3.0 L V6 w/ automatic trans.

Thanks guys....

Sounds like you need to buy and replace the power steering high pressure hose.

Instructions are available with a search on google, or perhaps on You Tube.

And if it is your High Pressure PS hose, DON'T use aftermarket. Only OEM for this car. Too many have complained about a whining sound when they switched to aftermarket. I did and then bought a new OEM because it bothered me so much!

This is true. I had to replace the high pressure PS hose on my old 04 i35. I had a aftermarket hose put on and it whined from day one. One thing I noticed was the aftermarket hose looked a lot thinner than the OEM hose. I’m not sure if this was the reason it would whine. I just lived with it for a few more years before I got rid of the car. If you plan on keeping the car, then replace it with an OEM PS hose.

97maxy how did it go? And I know oem is the way to go, but so expensive. Anyone ever try the brand Omega hose #1026? It's made in USA.

It took a while but I finally got it in. Not one of the easier jobs I took on.

I did go oem to not have any further problems.

Thanks...
