Supercharger installed

I bought the kit from my cousin who bought a SC'ed 96 from another member here. It's a Stillen V1 plate and V1 supercharger. Instead of the Trex fuel pump and pressure switch it has a Walbro in tank pump. It also has an AFPR along with the FMU. I used my rail mounted AFPR instead. It had a CAI but I chose not to install that right now.

Lots of time was spent cleaning, painting and sourcing parts to install it. I went through everything except for the SC itself. I'll rebuild it over the winter or swap it for a V2. It's too loud for my liking. My car has the stock exhaust so I hear all sorts of new noises. Da whistles go WOOO-WOOOO.

There were a few minor issues. The belt I bought was too long. I got a K060705 without checking the car which had a destroyed K060696. I have a K060695 now. I used the 95-96 IATS so some soldering was needed. Having the 00vi made it a bit more complicated. An extra tube and coupler I had actually fit perfect. Routing the relocated IACV was fiddly.

I'm **** as can be. Saying I took my time is an understatement. I mean really, I extended the MAFS power wire with the same wire from another harness. I also swapped the bolts for studs on the thermostat just so the gasket was easier to install. I mean who does that?!

Alright enough with the talking, on to the pictures.

The car as advertised in 2016.

As it was dropped off to me.

Reinstalled onto mine. In before someone says that filter is small, it's from the 350z Vortech kit.

I'll come back and post install pictures I took along the way.

Damn jealous you were able to find a car with those stillen parts, they're quite hard to come by these days. Not only that, your engine bay looks like it hasn't aged at all.

That filter is way too small.
I wouldn't worry about finding the oversized pancake filter, just build a nice 2.75" custom CAI with a huge filter down in the fender well.

I agree, it's as old as dirt at least in terms of 4th gen parts. I don't even know what years Stillen produced these..... anyone know?

Not sure yet as I haven't driven it hard. I want to confirm the fuel pressure; need to move the gauge so I can see it while driving. The 96 felt good last time I rode in it. He has raced and won against all kinds of cars.

Someday, but why 2.75" and not 3.5"? Plus how does Vortech claim this filter supports a 440 hp rev up? I was shocked how small it really is.

It's unlabled, it should be a 3.6". The boost gauge was broken in the 96. I have one coming.

Ha, yeah 20 minutes my ***. I love to meet more members. I havent met too many living way up here in Maine and I don't travel much.

I'm having a mid life crisis in my mid 30's. 20 years of 4th gens, I can't stay away. I never thought I'd have one with a car seat or a supercharger or both! I do enjoy working on these cars, it's like second nature.

Interesting CAI.

AFPR and FMU, the hoses were a mess.

Not much of a looker.

What a strange oil feed line.

This needs some cleaning.

How many more miles could this go?

Taking a bath.

Clean enough for my car.

A few coats of paint.

New 90 leftt, original right.

Swapping in a fresh thermostat.

More painting.

Ready to do some work.

Things are falling into place.

Messing with the fuel lines.

Just about there.

Needs a filter.

Oh, it's cute.

All done...

Well that short pipe needs paint, not duct tape!

Mounting a pod.

I like this better than the A pillar.

Let's go for a drive!

Why does it feel like I'm bench pressing 1000 pounds when you floor it? LOL

With my whole body!

Congrats!

I've been driving it around, mostly regular cruising, like trips to the store stuff. First time I took my daughter out she asked, "what's that noise?" I had to had to pop the hood and show her the SC. She just had to see. Then she showed me the air filter.

It feels a bit sluggish compared to a UDP in the low RPMs. I've done few rolling 1st gear pulls here and there, it wakes up quick. 245s start to lose traction. I haven't taken 2nd to redline yet.

I'd love take it to the track. It's been 10 years. I broke a drive shaft last time. Oops.

IIRC, you do have a VLSD in there? And bpth front tires are getting away from the pull?

Probably have to go with a different compound tire that you can use 6 months out of the year to top that!

Probably not good for rain either. And I bet there's no High Torque CV axles out there. Only Stock spec.

I love G spots..... errrrr.... I mean G Forces! LOL

VLSD, yes. I thought about summer tires as I don't plan on driving in snow. I went with all season tires, based on cost mainly. With FWD, traction is always an issue. Drag radials or slicks are the way to go for traction. I'd rather have the tires as the weak link so I'm okay with it.

It's not much power anyway, not like I'm all over the road squirrely. I built 2 turbo B13 Sentras with my old coworkers. One was 250 fwhp, the other 350 fwhp. Those cars are death traps. The 250 one was crashed pretty quickly. It ran 8.6 @ 86 and 13.1 @ 110 with no traction, 2.1 60' IIRC. 12 second car easy with traction.

We still have the other one. My buddy and his son have been working on it. It was on hiatus for years. I think it did high 7s or low 8s @ 94 on a shake down run.

Looking good. I just know that 90 degree supercharger silicon elbow must have been a pain to fit. Mine was due to the discharge portion of the SC being so close to the frame.

It wasn't too bad. I trimmed the supercharger side then adjusted the charge pipes brackets so it would clear. There's a bit of wiggle room. The old elbow was cracked so I was determined to make it fit no matter what.

Nice work!, looking good.

That original oil feed line!

What size pulley are you planning to move to after the 3.6?

Whatever works with the stock MAF, ECU, and injectors. I don't want to open a can of worms anytime soon. Smallest is 3.25" I think, along with 8:1 in the FMU.

On a side note, I was racking my brain over the fuel pressure. This setup obviously worked fine for years however the car sat and some things in the fuel system were done iffy. I wanted to be sure the FMU was operating correctly.

If you want to calculate fuel pressure:

1/2(static fuel pressure at idle) + (Boost PSI x fmu ratio)

Example, (43.5÷2) + (6x6) = 57.75 psi.

My gauge was getting close to 60 so it really is all good.

I replaced the 2 blue couplers and short tube with a 6" coupler. It fits perfectly and is a good fix for those with the 00vi and the original Stillen tubing/charge pipes.

I also took a picture of the oil feed tee for those interested.
