New owner of 1995 Nissan Maxima GLE 58k miles
Hi everyone, became a new owner of a Burgundy Red 1995 Nissan Maxima GLE. Payed $2k, has 58k miles, has a slight bump/scrape on passenger front bumper and had a mangled passenger cornering lamp. Only visible rust is on the muffler. Interior is in great condition, leather seats show pretty much no wear. Everything powered works, sadly no cold weather package. Radio, Auto A/C, Bose speakers, cruiser control works. Removed some leaves slightly blocking MAF, tightened throttle cable, changed it to synthetic and running Shell 89 octane. (upstream O2 and Knock codes with 87 octane) Trans fluid is a nice bright red and shifts smoothly, pulls hard for its age. Recently changed front rotors and pads and yesterday replaced mangled cornering lamp. No vibrations, no bouncing, no abnormal sounds coming from the engine.
So because of its low mileage, and pretty much lack of problems, my concern is the past maintenance. What problems could occur during this time, especially in the winter?

I am jealous. We have owned three 4th gen maximas and just traded the last one, my daughters 99 (200k miles), for a rogue. I feel this is the best generation of maxima.
You did good finding this one, easily get another 150,000 miles and more on the engine if you take care of it.
good luck

True, some drivers Ive noticed thought it was a grandma car and pulled to the other lane. Ive never gone rim shopping, so what kind rims would you recommend?

The octane rating of fuel will not set O2 or ks codes. You most likely have a slowly failing O2 sensor. If and when those codes come back, change the O2, clear the error codes and check about a week or 2 later to see if the KS code is back. The ks alone will not set a check engine light. If it's found without any other codes, it's time to change it.

so I did a more thorough inspection for rust, especially at the lower rad support. the lower rad looks good. so far the muffler is almost gone, will replace it soon. the few nicks underneath the engine and was probably from when the previous owner probably went over a median. pretty much the rust is on the exhaust.

Welcome.
I inherited my '95 SE in Aug 2011 with 100,400 miles and it now has 175,000'ish. Great car. I get a good 30MPG and when I let to sit in the driveway to warm up (frak'ing COLD here ,) I still get 25'ish.
Runs great, but I have recently picked up the timing chain rattle.

Looks pretty good from the pictures you posted. After owning my car for 8 years or so, I replaced my lower rad support in 2012ish. With the harsh Illinois winter and the salt my engine was barely supported by the lower rad support by then. Keep an eye out after a couple of years.
