refusing to shift outta gear

My 96 refuse to jump from 1 to 2 unless I push it to around 2500 -3000 RPM, wheb the engine is hot it runs like a charm, any idea what's going on? Automatic

if it runs fine when its warm, check the fluid level for the trans, sounds like its low and the level goes up enough when its warm to shift fine. check it ASAP because when its cold youre burning up the internals of the trans with it slipping
