Car hesitate before going into 2nd sometimes

my title pretty much says it all (Automatic), when I'm moving from a stop my car would not going into 2nd gear unless I move off really hard by pushing it up to almost 2500 - 3000 RPM or if I do move off slow it would just run in 1st gear until I give it more gas pushing the RPM higher then it changes, My check engine light is not on, but a week or 2 before I started getting these problems I got a code p01400, I cleared the code to see if the sensor had failed or if it was just a glitch, the code never came back up, I also went to do my inspection, and the guy said there was 2 pending codes, but the car still pass, my obd that i use on my phone doesn't pickup these 2 codes, so I'm wondering if it's a tranny issue, but I've also tested the tranny to see if it's slipping by holding the brakes, and hitting the gas, it never past 2300 RPM, so I'm a little lost, I've also check my tranny fluid, it's reddish, and as a good amount, I'm due for an oil change, nothing is leaking, and that about it, does anyone know what is going on with the car, or what to check, please let me know, and thanks for the help

I would recommend changing your trans fluid to Valvoline high mileage dex/merc synthetic transmission fluid which is one f the best fluids that i think that are available on the market. I have always used Valvoline for my 97 maxima automatic and it's been running like new and it has 307,798 miles on it. Also the reason why im saying change it is becuase it might fix the rough shifting into second with fresh good quality fluid.

Luminous--

It's not clear from your description, but it sounds like what I had. It stays in first longer than usual, right, and then it shifts? I ended up replacing the tranny solenoids, which fixed the problem.

If changing the fluid doesn't help, I started a thread with some tips about that, including where to get the solenoids much cheaper. If you decide you have to do that and can't find it, let me know.

P1400 isn't transmission related, it's an EGR system trouble code.

Check the TPS, make sure it's within specs. If that's OK, change the trans fluid. It's probably a sticky solenoid.

What are you using for your phone app?
I had Tourque lite (the free one) It couldn't connect to the car at all
Upgraded to the pro (well worth the $5), and it can see and do everything. No idea why lite didn't work.

  • P1400

DESCRIPTION
The EGRC-solenoid valve responds to signals from the ECM. When the ECM sends an ON (ground) signal, the coil in the solenoid valve is energized. A plunger will then move to cut the vacuum signal (from the throttle body to the EGR valve.)
When the ECM sends an OFF signal, the vacuum signal passes through the solenoid valve. The signal then reaches the EGR valve.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

OVERALL FUNCTION CHECK
Use this procedure to check the overall function of the EGRC-solenoid valve circuit.
During this check, a DTC might not be confirmed.

So I went ahead, and changed the fluid, the car goes into gear much smoother, but the problem still remains, when the car is cold it doesn't want to shift from 1st to 2nd, but I found that if i push the RPM up to 2700-3000 then let off the gas it would shift, I know that it shifts because I can feel it, see it, and hear it then all the other gears work fine, but when its warm there's no problem at all, a friend told me, that I should drop the pan, and changed the filter, and see if that works, but I don't want to go one way when the problem is the other way, the only code I have is for the egr p1400, so if anyone knows anything that might help please let me know

Sounds like a valve body problem, either a solenoid or dirt in a passage. Usually you'd expect 700-style codes, though. Should be able to find a used valve body for around $100 but you need to match the type accurately, IE take it off and take photos at the least.

That really does sound like what I had. Here's the thread I did on it. https://maxima.org/forums/4th-genera...solenoids.html

You can try finding a used valve body, but you'll still have old solenoids. But then, you don't know for sure that the problem is in the solenoids, either. You always have to roll the dice a little when you're doing your own repairs...

this doesn't sound like something broke to me nor does it not want to change, it just doesn't want to change on it's own when it's cold, but like i said in my post, I force it to shift when it cold by pushing it up to 2500 RPM then let off the gas, and it changes, I'm gonna ask one more mech friend what he thinks, then I'm gonna change the tranny filter base on what he said
