95 melted headlight

Went to change my oil and noticed my headlight had a hole melted through from the inside. Has anybody else seen this happen with the glass headlights on the 95s?

yeah, you can't melt a glass headlight with a stock bulb. i don't think a hid bulb could melt a glass headlight either. you can melt the bulb socket with high wattage bulbs, i've done that.

All the lights are stock oem. The headlight bulbs are the same ones that were in the car when I bought it about 5 years ago.

Did you buy the car used? Perhaps someone else previously put in a high wattage bulb. Anything above 55w on the halogen bulbs tend to melt the harness. If not you may have a bad connection. Should get it checked so it doesn't start a fire. Maybe check your local scrapyard for a used one. They shouldn't be too pricey

Yes the car was bought used ac. Already checked bulbs and wiring. There aren't any modifications to any of the lighting. Car has no funky smells, I know what that type of issue would smell like. And I really doubt any issues like what you described could do this:

That's a rock impact and what you're seeing is the break out from behind.

Does appear to be a hole from a pellet gun or something?

Rock. I had the same on mine. The chip should be floating around in there still.

A rock break out wouldn't melt glass. I did examine the headlight closer yesterday evening and saw small glass chunks and shavings inside. Some a hole clearly drilled my darn headlight. Starting the hole broke the glass at the back and heat from drilling melted the rough area left by the broken off parts. Seems to be the most plausible explanation.

When my euro clear glass lens got hit by a rock it looked exactly like yours...I doubt ur ride was vandalized. You can fill it with clear epoxy for now until you get a new lens.

How would you explain the almost perfect circle hole with what appears to be burn marks around the circumference of the hole. And I'd think the area on the outside surrounding the hole would show signs of impact. Far as a new lense goes I'm not replacing anything, trying not to buy anything I don't have to and just put that cash towards something newer.

How would you explain it's NOT perfect? Poor evidence for one hypothesis is NOT evidence for another.
