starts then dies

today i decided to change out my rear vlave cove gasket becuase it was leaking real bad. put everything back together now it will crank start up here and there if i keep my foot on the gas it will stay running. it will not even to attempt to start in drive or reverse or in park and neutral. i took it all apart and put back together twice. also while i was doing this my egr vlave was completly clogged so scrapped out all the gunk. my thought is maybe its stuck or open. would that cuase it?

thank you so much for any help

forgot to mention there is a humming sound when the car key is set to on almost sounds like its coming from starter

Get it running, even if barely, and spray carb cleaner around suspected leak areas. A spike in engine speed indicates a leak. It is a flammable material in an area where it could possibly ignite, so use caution (duh).

you probably forgot to hookup a disconnected vacuum pipe. Check all of your pipes and hoses.

ok so car runs now but shakes when idling it takes a minute to accelerate also make a sputtering noise while driving.
worse part of all still leaking oil but i dont think from rear valve cover because the car has stopped smoking used to look like the engine caught fire.
it is leaking behind oil pan area i just cant locate it anyone got any ideas what gasket it might be?

How was the condition of your old spark plugs? Maybe the new plugs are already soaked in oil. Better check.

^ and fix the oil leak, any leak is not good.

I have one leak but its from the Air conditioner I use in my car alot, and it leaks "clear liquid" looking like water after i turn off the car and its suppose to be condensation or something like that. and heard its normal.. but nothing else leaks for me.
