Just checking on getting a replacement transmission (automatic) for my '97 Maxima. The first question they ask is "Limited slip or standard?" I didn't know there were two types offered, and was told that I probably have the standard one.

Any way to know for sure?

Didn't see any help in the VIN guide, although thanks for pointing it out to me, might help down the road. All I see is something saying that Maximas can be either a32 or A33. No idea what the difference is between those two. Does that determine which tranmission?

A32 is 4th gen Maxima, A33 is 5th gen Maxima. It's probably open diff. I think LSD was offered in the later Maxima's and I30's. You could jack up your car, spin a front wheel while its in neutral, and if the front wheels spin in opposite directions, it's open diff.

All 4th GEN Maximas sold in the US are non slip. Only Canada got slip differential.

Do a neutral drop. If only one tire spins it's a open diff if both spin you have a limited slip :-)

Not at all a tell tale.
I have VLSD and it's not consistent on which tire wants to let go and when. Road conditions, etc.
