How To Remove the VSS Write-Up for AT [With Pictures]
* I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK* MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS COLD OR YOUR CAN GET SEVERELY BURNED. THAT IS ALL.
Took me about 20 minutes. Could have been done in like 10-15 minutes but bs always gets in your way
Tools required:
10mm socket
A Rag
Optional:
Extension or Philips screwdriver and flat head screwdriver.
Step 1:
Its better to work without the Air box/intake, so remove it. (Perfect opportunity to clean your TB/IACV/MAF)
VSS is located above the transmission. Follow the harness wrapped with the white tape (whatever it is).
Step 2:
VSS is bolted down with a 10mm bolt. Use a 10mm socket. You can also use a Philips screwdriver but I recommend a 10mm socket. You don't really need an extension. Use the picture above as a guidance to find the bolt. Its just one.
Now, some people said that it would very difficult to pull out the VSS but I didn't struggle. What I did was, twist the VSS to the left a little, then wiggle it back and forth and pull it up at the same time (I used a rag instead of using my bare-hand). *VSS might be covered in ATF*
New VSS from the dealer. Got it for $27.xx + tax = $30.xx
Comes with the harness and o-ring.
Hardest part for me was taking off the harness from the clip. I used a flat head screwdriver to push it.
This was a b1tch for me to remove took more than 5 minutes to remove and put the new harness in.
New VSS on the left, old VSS on the right
Final Step:
Push the VSS back in. Make sure the bolt is aligned perfectly to the transmission before you tighten it. **Use your hand first to make sure the bolt is screwing in** then tighten it with the 10mm socket.
Put your air box/intake back in. Turn on your A32 and make sure you don't have leaks and remove the CEL for the VSS if you haven't so. Go out for a drive

this is exactly what I did when I changed mine. You are exactly right about the twist and pull method(sucker popped right out). I had on a pair of gloves when I removed mine because that sensor is murder on bare hands. This is sticky material no doubt.

Thank you for pointing that out. I know what I'll be doing tomorrow morning
I replaced it because I got the code P0500...first thing that came into my head was the VSS....but dumb me didn't research before I bought the VSS. Then I realized that P0500 means that the Cluster is not making contact with the ECU....sigh. Well I'll be taking care of the cluster this weekend since CEL came back.
Oh well, another old sensor taken care of that I won't have to worry about for another 15 years.
