Will 00 block work in my 97??

I've searched and get mixed results, so any with actual experience is much appreciated. I read that the blocks from 96-01 are identical. They say just have to change over all components, intake upper and lower, exhaust manifolds, motor mounts and timing cover. Is the cam gears the same for the sensor to read it once I change out the cover. According to Nissan the cam gears are different with different part numbers.

Many have swapped in DEK motors, but usually to take advantage of the better intake. If you don't want the intake manifold then you will need to swap the lower intake manifold on up with your original stuff. The DEK has different coolant route but you can make it all work with little fuss.

Part numbers will differ and Nissan will tell you its not the right stuff, but most of the internal parts are interchangeable.

You will need to keep your emissions parts to keep your MIL/CEL out.

Why swap bits and pieces? At this point in time you should really only be considering:

00VI
Full VQ30DE-K swap
or VQ35DE swap using 3.0 timing

As I understand, and someone else can confrim, the 00-01 cams are different, and that the 4th gen cams are actually more aggressive. Makes sense because emissions.

The 00VI swap pretty much turns your DE into a DE-K anyway so the VQ30DE-K swap is redundant.

Depends on what you trying to do lol Im not worried about horse power gains, its a work car. I just need to get it running again and not having any luck finding a reasonable priced engine. I dont want to do a dek swap, i just want to know if the dek block will work in my 96. I have access to a cheap dek block.

Has anyone done this swap? I'm wondering if the different cam in the 00 will affect the timing of the 96

If youre using a dek block it should already have timing on it...just swap your emissions equipment and manifolds injectors and call it a day....

block is the same. no need to change the timing components. they are the same. the 3.5 blocks need work with timing if u want to put them in 4th gens. but i know thats not what you are looking for.
