Doing inner tie rods tomorrow, what is the metal wire for that comes with them?

Doing inner tie rods tomorrow, what is the metal wire for that comes with them?

I have this metal wire with two loops at each end that came with the tie rods, I am embarrassed to say I am not sure what it's for.

Is it to do with the boot?

that's for holding the tie rod boot onto the steering rack. i just used a plastic tie (easier to get in there).
