Hesitate to start when cold

Hey folks. Been a while since I posted. I couldn't find my old post from a year or so ago about this issue.

Ok, this happens usually when the car is cold in the morning.
Basically it has sat overnite.
(In cold weather, it does it more)

When I goto crank the engine, it catches as to start, then it shuts off, like it stumbled.
I can repeat this process from 1-2 more times before it catches.
If I press the gas pedal a few times, then try again, it will start right up.
(fuel pressure bleed off?)
Then it might happen randomly on initial start thruout the day. Usually when the car is sitting while Im in the grocery store.

I had thought it was the FPR so I replaced it and it went away...for a few days.

I checked the Fuel Pump with an ohm meter and it checked out.

Also cleaned the IACV a few times.

Could the IACV be headin out, or is it something else?

(fuel filter has about 18k on it)
(new fuel line near the FPR)
(The FPR vacuum line is bent but not broken because Im cheap, so I just bought a regular vacuum line, not the special molded that fits perfectly)
(I run 93 octane fuel, non ethanol)
(Replaced the valve cover gaskets about 18k miles ago)

I had a thought come to me. Could the fuel cap cause this?

Does it work fine in the cold winter? I had been battling similar issue for nearly two years. It worked fine in the winter, and only suffered when it got warmer. It turned out the ignition switch being the culprit. (some kind of short between run and start positions).

Sounds like you have a different problem. Have you checked the REF/POS and camshaft sensor?

idk. if it does it on initial crank,
if i press the gas pedal a couple times,
then try to crank it again,
it cranks right up, with a little stumble just b4 the rpms go up to warm up.

afterwards, it runs good and usually wont do it again, unless it has been sitting a while(grocery shopping; or longer usually)

Have you clean the throttle body, check the air leak?

It really shouldn't. The gas cap keeps pressure in the EVAP system and should not link to the pressure in the fuel rail. That's said, I don't know about where you are, the gas cap is an inspection item here and you couldn't pass the inspection with leaking gas cap. I would probably get a new one if it is bad.

Chek the engine coolant temp sensor, make sure it's resistance in correct when cold.
Check the cold idle plunger and linkage down under the throttl body, to the left. Make sure it's opening the throttle plate slightly when the engine is cool.

If you ever want to check your fuel pressure regulator diaphragm beyond just pulling off the vacuum hose, go to autozone or advance and borrow the vacuum tester tool and connect it to the regulator vacuum fitting and pump it up a bit. It should hold steady without moving for 10 minutes or longer. My regulator diaphragm was so leaky that it didn't even hold for 3 seconds.
