Thinking of replacing stock bleeder valves with these dormans

dorman 12706 dorman 12706

Are any of you using these? Are they good?

The thread stem is much shorter on these than on the oem bleeders.

Sad story

So I buy the speed bleeders: dorman 12706 bleeder valves. I install them. Get in the car and the brake is all mush. I had just done the rear brakes, so I figure the caliper piston is pushed back, in needs to meet the new pads, that's why the brake pedal is mush, so I keep a' pumpin'. Nothing. Still mush.

I get out, aiming to examine the problem from the outside, and to my big unpleasant surprise the contents of the master cylinder is in two giant puddles next to my rear wheels.

And the punch line is that the speed bleeders by Dorman listed as matching Maxima OEM bleeder valves are listed incorrectly on ALL major auto parts sites as Dorman 12706 (rockauto, parts geek, advance auto, AND Dorman's own website), when they should be Dorman 12709 - ones with the correct length stem THAT WILL NOT RESULT IN AN ENVIRONMENTAL SPILL.

Nice little surprise on an otherwise sunny day. As I schedule some evening time to rub absorbent into the asphalt outside my abode.

I wish I saw this earlier.

I installed the Dorman 12706 speed bleeders on my calipers last January. The thread matched but these M10 bleeders are too short at only 33mm. Luckily I immediately noticed the fluid spurting out when the valves were closed so I didn't dry the master cylinder.

When I contacted rockauto.com they apologized and gave a full refund without returning them. They obviously didn't listen and still have them listed for A32s.

Thanks for pointing out the dorman 12709s are a correct fit at 35mm. I just ordered 2 sets and will install them when I clean the brakes next month.

Just want to confirm that the Dorman 12709 speed bleeder valves will fit our calipers. When installing newly painted refurbished front calipers earlier this week I inserted those valves on all 4 calipers and they worked fine. You'll get 4 for only $16 shipped from www.rockauto.com.

Somehow Dorman has all it's distributors list their 12706 valves for our calipers which are too short at only 33mm.
