I dont know if I should risk it, or go for it because its cheap, note that my exhaust pipe currently has a huge crack in it thats about 10" long so I need a new one.

Its a megan racing exhaust knockoff. Get apexi exhaust for our 4th gen maxima. Its the best exhaust sound for the 4th gen maxima.

Its a steaming pile of trash. The fitment is iffy and its made out of the thinnest metal possible. Don't waste your time. There are very few cat backs worth spending money on. If you have an aftermarket Y pipe get ready for a ricey exhaust note.

Ive got an axleback that still pretty much new for sale. Was on the car for less than 30 miles. Had to take it off due to clearance issues. I scraped it on every driveway. Loved the sound it made. HMU if youre interested.

Sound clip:

i got something very similar, and i rode with the silencer off for a while. Although it sounded pretty good especially with the cold air intake, it got annoying after a while and people got pissed. I threw the silencer back on and honestly it sounds just as good as any other expensive cutback exhaust. Waste of money over spending on certain things and i think this is one of them. Ive had no issues with mine. Don't waste your money on an overpriced exhaust, its pretty unwise in my opinion -_-

fitment is iffy depending on the brand you buy. nothing a bit of twisting and elbow grease cant do. mine is holding up just fine 2 summers and a winter and i live in canada...

you waste time buying a cat back either way... if you say one for 600 is worth spending i say bs cause the i'd rather get cmax's crush bent cat back for $100 and get an ss y pipe from warpspeed for about 200. cat back is only there for sound and all of them sound the same.

here's what a ricey exhaust sounds like with 'good quality' components from stillen. this is with the stillen unequal y

catless:

catted, still ricey/tin can sounding on the rev down:

here's mine, i still don't like it cause of the unequal y but its not ricey at all using my "$hitty" ebay cat back. this was with the big cannon on it with no 00vi:

pffft no way i'm with chris... cat back is a cat back. as long as its t304 ss ad mandrel bent its all good.

the greddy sp2 is like 500-600 bucks. for a cat back thats wayy too expensive considering thats the last part of the exhaust that hardly makes a difference... keep in mind a warpspeed SS y pipe is just over 200 and gives twice the power if not more of the cat back.

i got the SRS cat back for $250 shipped and it came with the ugly cannon, year later i bought a vibrant 2.5" stealth muffler with axle back attached for $100.

sure the can is ugly but if you tell me this sounds ricey then you're stupid lol

dude they all sound the same. some will have more/less rasp/volume depending on the presence of resonator(s) and the style of muffler. the thing that changes the actual sound of the car are headers and the y pipe.

take a quick look at my links

i've too much research on exhaust sounds for the maxima lol the best power/sound/bang for buck factor is this:

-get a y pipe, equalize the shorter piece (this is what you need to do in order to sound close to a rwd vq35 or equal y pipe vq35 maxima/atima)

-2.5" cat

-cat back of your choice

some differences between y designs:

stock y vs WS

the stock is more equal cause the shorter piece actually wraps back a bit in the heat shield and then goes into the y 2-1 collector. the WS just goes into the 2-1.

here's a stillen equal y... sucks ebay y pipes didn't replicate this instead

custom equal y's for third gens... same idea

sorta ugly but gets the job done

this is something nicer i really wanna do this one

close up

i didn't mention hotshots or cattman equal y design since they are meant to go with their headers but if anyone's interested just google them

Get it.

If its too loud then u can throw the silencer on it and quiet things up. matter of fact, since its 2.5" piping its going to be bassy/droney. The silencer will make it quiet enough to be audible and sound sexy.

Do it man, Do it!

EDIT:

Did u hear doughboy's exhaust? That is what u want.

you want the exhaust to be quiet at idle (when sitting at a light) but audible when u get on it. You dont want it loud man, u gonna hate your life if its flowmaster loud. IMO

Here is mine. i just got a muffler:

Resonators flow differently. Some are more free flowing than others. All affecting the scavenging effect. When youre tuning to squeeze every bit of HP, this plays a huge part as far as gains. So to say all catbacks are the same and have no gains is very untrue.

ok you got a point with squeezing out hp and resonators but i never said that cat back don't make power. 10hp est at the crank at the most which will be unnoticeable on the butt dyno.

my ebay 2.5" resonated cat back is very straight through. the resonator is slim and i'm pretty sure they designed it with the least cost possible which to me = straight through. being cheap not even sure if it does anything for sound deadening. the big fart can is just a larger, thicker version of the resonator.

as i see it, a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust will perform just like any other 2.5" system (res and mufflers taken out of the equation). to me a cattman cat back looks to be more restrictive than an ebay version just because of the big resonator and a conventional looking muffler. the only difference i see between the ebay and anything else is quality of the product itself. difference gains between a custom mandrel 2.5" vs cattman vs ebay will be tiny imo

thats the warpspeed performance package right? i considered the pacesetter but decided agaisnt it cause its not SS but they make up for it a little with the paint.

i've heard that setup (but with a 2.5:cat) and doesn't sound ricey

Also to add, speaking of resonator differences, sound is affected in the same manner. Free flowing setups tend to be louder since theres less material to muffle it. The less free flowing setups (stock for example) are more on the quieter side. So finding a perfect balance of what you want out of your car can become quite technical if you decide to go into it deeply like i did.

What constitutes a restricting cat-back? Chambers, correct?I'm pretty sure all ebay catbacks will be straight through mufflers and resonators. I've been meaning to get a better video of my car post headers. It really cleaned things up in terms of sound

BTW, the silencer installed into these ebay mufflers look terrible

Correct. Also depends on length, true ID, and quality of material used to pack it.

A former coworker of mine put a large case Magnaflow muffler on his Frontier, and it had a nice sound. It was just a little louder over stock, and at idle was nearly the same, just a little deeper tone. It had a nice subtle bark to it at WOT. If it wasn't for that, you couldn't tell the exhaust was done to it.

Magnaflows are great in terms of keeping the volume down. A custom mandrel MF catback piped properly would sound very similar to a Cattman or GReddy SP/SE.

This is the muffler a former coworker had on his Frontier.

Here's a vid i found to give a general idea of the sound. Since it's on a truck, it might be a bit louder since there's several feet of tailpipe after the muffler, whereas our cars would have a foot or less.

All this talk of exhaust now makes me unsatisfied with mine yet again . If you buy quality components to piece an exhaust together it is good and if you want a name brand cat-back it is still good however I cant recommend the cheap Ebay cat-back. Couldnt risk it sounding like crap and looking like crap at the same time. Who has had the ebay on the longest? I wonder what its lifespan is

I have actual experience with the eBay exhaust and definitely recommend it. Doesn't sound or look like crap.

2+ years, no issues.

That's why you get the ebay cat back and just end up swapping mufflers. I'm also on my second year, just a lil bit of surface here n there

eGay catbacks on their own with the rest of the system untouched will sound ok. As soon as you touch any other part of the system, (ypipe like you say), thats when things start changing. Our motors are naturally very raspy so its all about rasp control. This is where better quality components will come into play big time.
