Rack & Pinion boot

Hi,how far does the boot have to go up on the passenger side on a 97 maxima? I put on the lock tie but the boot keeps sliding down. Please help if you can.

There is a groove on the rack similar to the other end on the tierod where it sits and doesn't move. There will be a metal bracket blocking it which makes it more difficult.
