Oil light flicker......

So the past few mornings i go to start up the car and the oil light flickers 3 times and goes off and stays off. Oil level is perfect 5w30 mobile1 synthetic. Just wondering if i need to have mechanic test oil pressure. Not really sure where to start checking things out....

Im pretty urgent with this only because im moving 800 miles away next week and i want to be sure this things getting proper oil pressure so im not screwed in the middle on nowhere.....

Personally, I don't think its necessary and you should be fine as long as you did your maintenance. How long in seconds does it take from beginning to end for all the flickers?

changing to 10w isnt going to help even the owners manuel says it may flicker upon start up mine does the same thing and has been sence i owned the car. theres nothing to worry about as long as it doesn keep doing it while its running...if ur oil level is ok than i wouldnt worry about it ...like i said even the owners manual says it might flicker for a sec or two when starting now if it was doing it while u were driving than there would be an issue

Oil pressure switch. It's on the rear of the lower oil pan.

Maybe...I am pretty sure infinimax96 just had this same problem and he solved it by replacing the oil pressure sensor switch. Here's his thread...post #9 he says he replaced the sensor and no problems.
http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...oil-light.html

Edit: but I guess his was flickering while driving...but still, it was not on constantly and replacing the switch worked for him. just a place to start I guess.

A number of people have had this problem...I just did a search and found this thread http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...-start-up.html
I think as long as you are not hearing any other noises/rattles AND it only does it upon start up, you are probably OK.

1 1/16 deep socket to get it out cant hurt anything to change it, its only a $10 part. I changed mine and the damn thing was not even screwed in all the way.

That's correct. It would also flicker on start up and sometimes on idle. It depends on if I was parked on any inclines. After replacing the sensor, bam haven't had an oil light since.

The sensor is cheap and took like 5 mins to change, 10 min with an oil change. You don't have to change the oil, mine just needed a change.
