PCV valve question & Rough Idling

I replaced my pcv valve and noticed a hissing noise coming from it like it has a pressure leak coming from it, is this normal??? I'm not sure if the sound was there before I changed it. I should have just cleaned my oem one and reused it, but I didn't know better and now I can't even find it. I bought one from Advance, the Purerator or som...since It's the closest to OEM. The hose is secured tightly so if the pressure leak sound isn't normal then it has to be from the pcv valve's fitment..even though it was tough to put on. Got a replacement hose for it for free at Autozone, while Nissan was gonna charge me $17 for a 4in rubber hose...please.

Also, I cleaned my TB & EGR around 6months ago and saw the misfire code when I pulled them. I recently replaced my plugs & coils. When I pulled the rear middle coil (not sure of #s) from the cylinder it had oil all over it. Could this be the source of the rough idling?? I read it could be worn rings or whatever, but it seems like a ***** so I may just have to deal with it.

Thanks

Did you change out the grommet? It could be dried and not be making a tight seal. I would recommend to change that since its a very cheap part. And if possible also just go with an oem pcv valve from the dealer. I bought the pcv and grommet for like $25 from brent koenig at gillman nissan in texas.

You can try putting in a new spark plug in there(since its cheap), just to test if that solves/eliminates the idle issue. However, if it fixes it, you'll eventually have to redo you valve and spark plug seals.

hmm never thought about the grommet, thx.

I saw oil in that cylinder twice before I changed my spark plugs. I recently put some new ones in, I guess I'll check to see if the oil is back.

So I'm guessing the sound I'm hearing from the pcv is abnormal?

is the oil on the plug tip or the boot? if it's on the boot, you need spark plug tube seals & valve cover gaskets. if it's on the tip, it could be rings or valve seals--bigger problem.

Oil is pretty much everywhere, when I pulled the coil out I couldn't even see the spark plug when I looked down the cylinder, because there was a pool of oil in it.

When I searched this issue, there was no one who successfully fixed an issue like this (that I know of) so I feel like I'm just SOL...

Do anyone know if the PCV valve sound is normal or not?

Your valve cover spark plug gasket need to be replaced. The valve cover has 3 o shaped gaskets for each spark plug tube. They are held to the tube by a spring. After old age they become brittle and don't hold their seal. This causes them to slide down the tube allowing oil to flood the spark plugs. You'll have to get a gasket kit and replace them. If you have the tools and time, it should only cost about $50 and take 2-6 hours depending on how experienced you are.

Yea that sounds like the problem. For the PVC check for leaks or maybe a pinched hose for return and feed on the pvc

I think I picked one up for I think $7 a while back from the parts store, I think it was a purolator one. Pvc valves can come apart so if you get a leaking noise, get a new one or crazy glue all around where the 2 pieces connect.

For the pcv hissing, besides ckecking the grommet, check the hose that connects to it. It may be dried out and have split when you slid it on to the pcv valve.
