Hey guys, was bored at work today. And I was thinking... how simple is it to buy a keyless entry system (oem preferred but not required) if my car did NOT come with keyless as a factory item?
Nothing fancy like remote start and alarm...but just door lock/unlock/trunk pop.
My car only came with two keys from the original owner, no fob or anything.
Would I just need to install a signal receiver and wire it into the power lock circuitry? Just floating some ideas through...
I've had my car for two years and have yet to purchase the fob either. Plan on ebaying it. I do have the security light that flashes once the car is locked.
Ok, I will check my trunk at lunch to see if I have the little metal case for the keyless.
If I DO, then can I just get any old nissan key fob and have it program properly, or must I source from another 4th gen? I ask because the style of fob is different and I think I like the 5th gen fob better.

You can use ANY key fob you want.....
as long as it has "A269ZUA078" on the back of it

Allright, Allright, I guess I'm gonna have to go with the 95-99 version.
Got busy at work so unable to take a peek around the trunk latch to verify if my car has the relay or not...will try later today
You could also check to see if you have the antenna/receiver box. It is in the trunk, mounted on the backside of the metal up & down panel just forward of the antenna motor.
Also if you buy a key fob, Nissan or non Nissan, it has to have a FCC ID of A269ZUA078 which say it works at 434 MHz.
I texted the original owner of the car, the one I bought her from, and he told me the car never had keyless remote, only the two keys.
So now what do I need to get?
Trunk relay and receiver box, yes, in addition to a fob?
EDIT - I just spoke with two local Nissan dealers, and they both told me that it DOES have the remote keyless entry option on it, so I am going to go ahead and order a 95-99 fob off of ebay :-)
Ok so I got the fob and tried to program it, but the car wouldn't go into program mode. I did the procedure right...lock door insert and remove key fully @ least 6 times within 10 seconds, but I do not get the flash of my hazards.
Try inserting and removing the key a little slower. If you do it too fast, the system will not enter registration mode. Also, make sure you completely remove the key before reinserting it.

Thought I did it right...I didn't want to go too slow since there's the 10 second limit...
is it 10 seconds for the 6 times in the key only, or 10 seconds from teh time the door is shut and locked to do the key thing?
Is that all I need though? Box, fob, and relay? Where do I connect all the stuff to? Also, do I have to get one from another 99 or can I do any 4th gen?
You definitely need the box in the trunk as that is the antenna (and does other things). It is called the "controler, key less" (Nissan's spelling - not mine) part number 28595-0L710. It is the same one on 97, 98 and 99.
Do you have the wire harness connections for that controller? If you don't, I would forget about this project as there may be a lot of other wires missing. The alarm uses the body control module (BCM) located under the center console ashtray. It sits on top of the automatic transmission control module (TCU).
If you look in the FSM, the EL section page 250, it shows all the pieces that make up the alarm system. I wonder what other pieces you may be missing. The BCM, the alarm hood switch, the driver's door master window switch and on and on.
I just read all you post, You can purchase a basic aftermaket keyless entry system for around $65 bucks. It is about a 5 wire hookup. Also comes with two fobs. I understand if you are trying to keep it all nissan. Just wanted to let you know. I personally like the any "directed" product. Just easier to install than most others. Hope everything works out for you.
Pics of my setup are below, hope this helps. I could NOT find a gray antenna thing mentioned, but I think I could just run a wire and call it good like I read about in another thread.
My trunk:
Empty wire harness and connector...does this plug into the module?
Relay installed:
Underhood fuses with reference to fuse box:
Passemger side underhood relays:
Allright guys, this is it. What do you think? Can I just get a module and call it good or do I need to return my ebay fob and relay?

I bought a new non-OEM off of ebay. The issue I'm having right now is I can't get the car into programming mode in the first place. Apparently I have no module in rear corner of trunk, and I need it. I'm not even at teh fob part of diagnostics, as fob is irrelavent until I get car into programming mode
Under the hood, you have the relays and fuses that you need. Is the hood switch there? It should be on the radiator frame in front of the battery. The relay in the trunk is nice to have but if it is missing, the alarm system would still work. All it does is open the trunk.
Since you have the relays under the hood, I will assume that the car also has the BCM under the console. It is looking like all you need is the box in the trunk, the multi-remote control unit. Go to the junk yard and get one (and the mounting brackets) from a 97 to 99 maxima. Be sure to get the antenna wire with it as the photo of your trunk does not show that connector. Look at the center photo in the link you posted ( this post ). The control box has 2 connectors on it and I don't see the top one in your trunk.
$80 shipped for alarm, keyless, and remote start...and any other features I want. (trunk pop, hood/trunk/door triggers, parking light flash, horn honk, and impact sensor)

it does, but I would never really use remote start up here in Seattle it's never really that extreme on climate. Also, the alarm portion I am not a huge fan of anyhow, factory or not. Which gives me what...keyless entry only.
I am looking at 60 bucks total for the stuff I already bought and the stuff I need to buy. I'll take that.
If I was big into alrams and had all sorts of audio crap I want to protect, then yeah that's a good deal.

Not having the hood switch starts to make me wonder about other switches. The door locks have switches that are used by the alarm. When you use the key in the door, can you lock and unlock all 4 doors with the key? I would also check and see if you have a BCM module before you commit any more money to this project.
That says you have the door lock switches, Now the question is: do you have the door unlock sensors in each of the doors? Do you have the trunk lid key cylinder switch?
Look at page EL-250 of the FSM and check for the parts.
