Replace radiator support without welding (status)
So I bought a new Maxima and sold my old one to a buddy of mine (bought at 124,000, sold at 220,000) which is still going strong.
I knew the radiator support on the new one needed fixing as well, so I ordered the part from courtesyparts.com. Thanks to the org for everything by the way. All those who made and commented in threads, I thank you
$165 shipped. I even painted it with a few coats of rust-oleum, though not sure how much that helped since it was already powder-coated.
Taking the front end off wasn't all that bad, and using a drill, hammer and chisel to break the welds, had the piece off in just a few hours. (not the easiest thing I've ever done)
I wanted to re-weld it, I really did, but having to be back at work in a few hours, I decided the bolts seemed sufficient enough and I needed sleep. I could always weld it later.
A month later, it shifts so much smoother, from a start as well as sequential shifts. Just wanted to let everyone know, so far, so good
Next stop: put this Warpspeed y-pipe sitting in the back of my car, on my car.
CLIFFS: Replaced radiator support, didn't weld. All's well!

the bolts are probably sufficiant enough for now, but i would throw a couple key plugwelds in there to be safe you know? because if you get hit hard in the front end youre not going to have the same protection that you would if it were welded in the proper areas.
