Bose Entire Sound System Replacement Questions

SKIP TO EDIT PART, IGNORE BELOW

Hi, I have a 1997 Nissan Maxima GLE and the Bose Rear Deck speakers went out, so me and a friend were trying to mess with them and get them working again, but he ended up shorting the door speakers.

So now I'm replacing the whole sound system.

But I have a few questions to go that route, I know that the size of the speakers are 6.5" all the way around, but I was wondering if the rear deck speakers are different types of speakers or what type of speakers/subs would go back there?

I've searched and scoured the audio forum but most people don't have 4th Generation Maxima's so I haven't really been able to find anything specifically about what I'm asking.

I'm also asking here, what's good speakers to buy and a good HU, so if anyone suggests something that's not too expensive but better quality I'll for sure be interested.

I'll post some links on products I was looking at purchasing.

Deck/HU:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158GT26...X-GT260MP.html

Wire Harness:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207075...e-Harness.html

And here are the speakers for the door, which is my question if it would be good to put these in the rear deck? I'm willing to do that if it works.

http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Refer...pr_product_top

If anyone can provide additional links to what would be good in the rear deck or other products I could use to replace my system, it's all appreciated!

Thanks for all the help!

EDIT:

Ignore the above post. I have more questions.

Alright, thanks tigersharkdude and brandon for helping me out with a few questions, I have a better idea of what I'm looking at, so it's realy appreciated. Here's what I currently have in mind, the HU a couple of friends have had and they've only praised it over their previous HU's.

I was wondering if anyone could answer whether I should purchase component speakers or just the regular two speakers?

The HU will be the Sony I listed:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158GT26...X-GT260MP.html

Here are the component speakers:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DS62/Kicker-DS6-2.html

Here are the rear speakers:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DS65...65.html?tp=105

I've read that the rear deck speakers aren't the same type of speakers as the door speakers?

I read something about them being... free air sub woofers? Is that what I should purchase to replace them?

I've done countless searches and read old threads, but no one has been specific about Bose rear deck speakers. :/

I just want to make sure I'm getting the correct components for my car.

the rears are the same as the front. They have an amp on the bottom, if you are gutting the bose the amps going in the trash any ways.

I see, thank you for the info.

So it would be okay to put these:

http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Refer...pr_product_top

In the doors and rear decks?

Or would it be smarter to put something more like two of these in the rear deck?

rears are absolutely the same as the front.. i replaced mine with the infinity kappa perfect series 6.5's all the way around and they sound immaculate.. but most smaller infinity speakers are the way to go.. their subs are meh

you wanna pay close attention to what kind of amp you get as well.. (i assume you know that you can't just plug the speakers back in)rears are absolutely the same as the front.. i replaced mine with the infinity kappa perfect series 6.5's all the way around and they sound immaculate.. but most smaller infinity speakers are the way to go.. their subs are meh

and there are better HU's around for just slightly more

Okay, thank you for clearing up that there are no differences between front speakers and rear speakers.

What do you mean I can't just plug the speakers back into the receiver? I thought you only need an amp if you wanted like full powered enclosed subs or something similar?

If I'm just going to do those infinities, I wouldn't need an amp, would I?

(I know I sound really nooby, but you have to start somewhere so please bare with me)

I've tried googling for Infinity Kappa Perfect Series 6.5" and I keep finding different things?

I'm seeing mid range speakers, component systems, I'm not sure what you guys are talking about exactly. If you could provide a link, it would be very much appreciated.

you can plug it into your HU if you want but i've heard nothing but bad from it... it will be much clearer and louder with an amp honestly

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ci7SRze...rfect-6-1.html
the main reason you can't find them is because they are discontinued (didn't know that at all lol) sorry about that

but something comparable is not difficult to find.. i have those components up front with just the mid part of it in the rear.. JL Audio a4300 pushing them with a kenwood HU

best sound i've heard in a while from any car i've owned

(and i just ordered an RE Audio SXX 12 also )

I see, thank you.

Would any amp work? I'm honestly not trying to break the bank at the moment as I'm a college student and I don't mind doing my sound system paycheck by paycheck.

But I don't mind getting good sound on a budget price and until I get my good computer networking job then getting a really nice sound system.

As long as the sound is as good as the Bose front door speakers alone were, I'd be happy honestly. I don't need an extremely loud sound system, it's not that big of a deal to me personally. But I just can't drive in silence any longer, haha.

Ah, I see. Thank you! So you would recomend these over the infinity's I was previously choosing?

Another question if you don't mind answering, would it be okay if I just bought the HU, that pair of pioneer speakers, and run it off the HU and then on my next paycheck get an amp and another set of speakers for the rear?

Would it be easy to do a setup like that?

And what about this HU?

ha i'm in the same boat and i got the kappa's from the .org and i happened upon that amp for $70 lol ebay is something else

but really most any 4-channel amp will push some simple pioneer 6.5's like tiger showed or even those infinity's you showed earlier

if you want to keep the component aspect of the system (front 6.1 and 1 inch tweeter) then it's going to be a bit more expensive but you will get a wider range of sound

there are TONS of options as far as audio is concerned

Can't I use the old tweeters and still get the component aspect?

Edit:
Actually, I was looking at some component systems. What about these?

Alright, thank you all for the help, I've read and decided what I finally want to do.

Read the OP for links and stuff, but I will also provide them in this post.

The HU will be the Sony I listed:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158GT26...X-GT260MP.html

Here are the component speakers:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DS62/Kicker-DS6-2.html

Here are the rear speakers:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DS65...65.html?tp=105

Please, let me know what you guys think of this setup and let me know if there is anything you personally reccommend or would do differently, thanks.

I've been posting alot, sorry, haha.

HERE IS MY LAST QUESTION I PROMISE!

Now it's simply, what amplifier should I purchase? And it has to be a 4 channel, correct?

for a budget system sounds good to me

a 400watt 4 channel should be sufficient for what you've posted so far.. and yes one channel per speaker (tweeter and mid count as one)

you could go for more if you want to max out the speakers i suppose but dont go over board.. the amp is usually the most expensive part of the system... USUALLY

You're going to love the Kicker DS65's. I have those in my rear deck and they rock. I got them on Amazon for about $50/pr shipped.

Yeah, I noticed that with the Infinity's, they were like $30 cheaper, I'll atleast buy the HU from them though since it's the same price everywhere, and the wiring harness.

If anyone can answer, is the antenna adapter needed?

I've been shopping around... Crutchfield is a bit more expensive.

The Component Kickers on Crutchfield - $100 + free shipping

The Component Kickers on Amazon - $78 + free shipping

The Rear Deck two way kicker speakers on Crutchfield - $70 + free shipping

(That's actually the best deal I found on those)

The HU from Crutchfield - $75 + free shipping

The HU from BEST BUY ONLINE - $60 + free shipping

And the Sound Ordanance Amp you can only purchase from Crutchfield.

It depends on if you have the Bose sound system or not. If you have a Bose HU you can't just replace the speakers because the aftermarket speakers run at a higher ohm than the Bose HU can handle, I believe there is an adapter kit so it can work with the Bose HU.

Atleast this is all what I have been told and read, I think it's just worth it to replace the HU and speakers all at once if you want the best sound.

Hey guys, wanted to give a quick update, I just ordered the parts and should be here in two days. Here's what my final order was:

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KDC2...ml?tp=5684#Tab

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DS62...tml?tp=106#Tab

And it came with free wire harness, dash pocket, free shipping and I think some other stuff for right at $200.

I'll let you guys know how my install goes this weekend.

What do you mean full range?

I stated earlier that I didn't have the funds right now to order a full set of speakers, but I plan to get these speakers in the rear deck:

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206DS65...65.html?tp=105

And an amp, but I haven't decided on that yet.

It was sold out, haha. And the Kenwood just seemed better and had a ton of good reviews, I searched around.

And I ordered everything from Crutchfield because if I would've ordered from amazon it wouldn't taken two weeks to get the wires and everything, but with Crutchfield it's all coming in a few days, it was $30 more expensive, but with Crutchfield it's worth the peace of mind.
