y pipe sound

finally installed a warpspeed y pipe to replace the corroded and leaky OEM pipe. I must say I am not a fan of the sound. much louder/rougher and a bit ricey at the tail pipe.

I am not a modder or streeter, and prefer a quiet smooth exhaust like the oem. wish I could've saved the original pipe - it was just too far gone for welds.

for what it is (and cost) the warpspeed it a great pipe, but it completely changes the sound of the car. i have a baby now and it just seems a bit ridiculous to be driving around with a baby in the back and rice coming out the tailpipe.

I got a CAI and Y-pipe....It ain't loud until I hit 3k rpm +....When I drive normally (shifts done at 2k) I don't hear nothing, its quiet. As for the tail pipe, I can only hear it when I'm like literally next to it and the engine is cold...I guess warpspeed is

You must have an aftermarket muffler or cat-back. Both of my cars with a cattman y-pipe and stock cat-back were no louder than with the original y-pipe.

I have an OEM calsonic muffler and bosal B-pipe. also the magnaflow cat that warpspeed sells with the y pipe. should it be this much louder? it really is a big difference.

The magnaflow cat must be the culprit. I have a cattman y-pipe, walker soundfx muffler, and everything else is stock on my current car....and it is very quiet.

i should note that the muffler and b-pipe were replaced a couple years ago and the sound didn't change much if at all. it maybe got a bit throatier with the b-pipe, but nothing like the change with this y pipe.

hmmm. maybe the cat, then. I suppose I could try a standard cat and see what it does. the bolts are all fresh so I might be able to do this myself.

Magnaflow cats are high-flow, performance oriented parts. More power unleashed by exhaust mods usually means louder exhaust. (I doubt the magnaflow cat does anything but make more noise) Just changing the y-pipe doesn't do much because the stock cat, resonator, and muffler are pretty tame.

It's either the cat or an exhaust leak.

False not the cat. It is your B-Pipe.

My car would have sounded stock if it wasn't for the intake I had when I had a WSP Y and HFC to my stock catback.

People used to make fun of it because you could hear me coming but not going.

So the wsd y pipe alone shouldn't produce the ricey sound?

Correct, it's nearly unnoticeable unless you have two maximas next to eachother, one stock, one w/ a y-pipe.

But with the stock B-Pipe you won't hear 'ish coming out of back of the car.

few years ago I installed the wsp y pipe and the cat that they sold and the exhaust sound did not change much at all. I had a stock type Walker b pipe and muffler.

I changed my y pipe and cat back to OEM because after a year or two the wsp pipe made a noise like an exhaust leak. Not loud but I did not like it. To me the car sounds better and seems to run smoother with the OEM Y pipe and cat.

Bosal b-pipe = stock replacement.

I have a bosal b-pipe and OEM muffler, both installed before I got the Y pipe, and the sound with bosal B pipe was almost identical to stock. quiet and smooth.

the only thing that has now changed is the wspd y pipe and the high flow cat. so it has to be one of those.

I just ordered a new walker cat. hopefully I can get that on myself without too much trouble and it will quiet things down.

if not, I may offer to buy someone's stock y pipe if it's in good condition. I really hate how this thing sounds.

on the plus side it really does add noticeable power. the car screams.

Maybe it's the Bosal resonator.

Made these vids to hear how the Bomz intake sounded from the outside (Which was sweet btw, and that SRI is still louder than my exhaust now)

Mods were Bomz SRI, Warpseed Y+HFC

404: No bees in a can noise found

Now if your car sounds anything close to this you have an exhaust leak up where the y-pipe is (which is what I really think you're hearing)
