Recommendation for OEM type muffler

Hi All,

My I30 has been in the snow/rust zone for a good decade and the entire exhaust line is so rusted that now it sounds as if I'm driving a sports car

I looked thru couple pages in here and the group deals forum to see if there are any recommendations for a OEM style (sound n finish) muffler. Is Rockauto.com a better place to get one ? I saw Walker Quietflow muffler, just wanted to know if anyone bought it before. I'm guessing that A32 maxima parts can be used for 98 I30, true ?

http://info.rockauto.com/Walker/Deta...32511-0272.jpg

Is $120 a good price on such muffler ?

Any idea how much it would cost to replace the entire exhaust line (except for the catalytic converter)? There are couple junkyards nearby, is it ok to pick from there too ?

I looked at ebay too, but wondering if something like this could be bought ...
97 98 99 Infiniti I30 Muffler Exhaust System OEM NEW
System Includes:
2x Part# 31311 Gasket
1x Part# 31576 Gasket
1x Part# 01222 Pipe after converter , 9 inch long with O2 Port
1x Part# 608404-1 1st Extension pipe
1x Part# 608404-2 2nd Extension pipe
1x Part# 790241 Muffler
2x Part# 35725 rubber mounts
2x Part# MC200HD Clamps
1x Part# 41940 Connector

Thank you !

A quietflow is a good oem muffler equiv, the superturbo is a lil more high flowing but i dont think they make a direct bolt on one. i have also read that bosal makes good replacement exhausts.

Thanks for the advice ... I'm sending pm rightaway ... just saw another thread asking for info on bosal n walker mufflers ... i'm in calif bay area now, so don't expect too much rust problem ... i just want silent muffler ...

i noticed this morning that the central section of the exhaust is kinda hanging loose :-( And it seems to be all rusted ...

If you want completely quiet, eBay catback is not the way to go.

If you just need a muffler, Walker and Bosal are great replacements. You can even get a 5th gen muffler and it'll still be quiet.

Thanks chrisman, I was searching for your name and the results showed up this very thread.

Any idea if the ebay product I listed in the first posted is a good buy ? I presume the O2 sensors in my car are already baked in so I'll need to buy them too. Hopefully the catalytic converter on the car can be used ...

I've never heard of Eagle brand. Look up Walker or Bosal.

if u lookin to have your muffler replaced jus go to a exhaust shop. They got plenty of stock mufflers and can do the entire exhaust prolly 300.

If u need a y-pipe, then get a WS ypipe. The stock y-pipe new will be redunkulously expensive

I've been using the Walker Quiet Flow for about 4 years now. Actually I'm running Walker from the cat back. They have a Stainless Steel system with a life time warranty available, I would suggest you go with that.

Thanks njmax ... Just trying to understand the difference between the Quietflow and SoundFX mufflers from Walker ... price difference is like 2:1 ratio ... FAQs says 3 tube design vs 2 tube design, but obviously i can't make any out of it ... appreciate your response. I have added the quietflow to my wish list in ebay for $130 .. Rock Auto has it for $134 ...

For now, I'm only getting the rear muffler, so I'll probably get any washer/nuts/bolts from local store. Just bought the Walker Quietflow from ebay for $130.

I just replaced my whole exhaust system (cat, mid section with resonator, and muffler). Went with Walker Quietflow mid section, non lifetime warranty muffler(1/2 price of lifetime muffler), and exact fit cat (rough twice the cost of a generic cat, but comes with flanges already welded on). This was the most cost effective solution for me, as I was installing myself and I don't have a welder. Everything just bolts in place and all hangers are already attached. Had to bend one hanger arm to get it to fit properly, but otherwise everything went in smoothly and it sounds very quiet.

Also, it was really easy to remove the O2 sensor so I was able to reuse it.

Appreciate if you can spell the list out of parts needed besides the major ones ... how much did the total bill come to when you did it yourself ?

thanks

Thanks J2Fresh but I had already ordered and received Walker Quietflow before you posted

Anyways thanks all, I got the walker quietflow installed by a very nice mechanic who charged just $40 ... the flanges on the old muffler and the pipe welded when we looked at it, so he cut the pipe and then welded the new one in. There was a gaping hole where the two flanges join. He took care of hanging sections of the entire exhaust pipe and now my car is rattle free,, and smooth ... just what an infiniti should have been ... i was unnecessarily afraid of touching the exhaust repair for quite long time but was satisfied with the sports car sound for a while.

I do feel that the car was sluggish until the muffler was changed, but it just feels better and not sluggish as before. Thanks for suggestion.

If anyone in bay area, CA needs to get the exhaust work done, lemme know and I'll get you the address of the place.

damn cut a new walker muffler. why couldn't the guy cut off the rusted nuts and pop out the bolt with a drill? if the muffler is gone that means the bpipe is on its way.
