Man i miss being on here. now that i can take a few breaths and catch up.
Well my 99 i30t was involved in an accident.
Yes the frame was thrown off but a good friend of mine was able to work his magic.
But in the process of accident it threw the shifter of the transmission off.

So now she doesn't start in park.
she'll start in between "N" and "R" or if i put her in "D" then "R" then she'll crank.

And I'll have all 4 gears if the shifter is in "N".


So i tried to look it up on the site but i guess this is'nt a common problem.
so can anyone provide any info on how to do this...thanks.

Ok. So if i replace the switch it should be all good? Cause u can feel the indentation too. But it wont show on the indicator in certain gears

well today i got up under there and looked.
it's weird, everything seems intact.
and when i went to touch the cable the car moved out of gear.
so i think the cable may actually be the problem...but how can i adjust that?

to see if its your p-n switch, temporary connect together 2 wires going to it. see if it starts in park, if it does here's your problem, if not then look further

Check your linkages and anchor points (cable housing ends), and replace the cable. I dont have auto trans, nor have i fixed one, but thats my gut feeling.

Maybe you have a bent bracket, either at the transmission or by the shift lever. At the transmission, note the position of the arm that the cable attaches to. Remove the cable and see where the arm wants to detent. This will tell you how much you need to move something, but I don't think there are any adjustments built in.

Well, I looked at the FSM and I found there are adjustments. In the 1999 FSM starting on page 188 of the AT section is the park/neutral switch adjustment followed by the cable adjustment. It is all performed in the car by the shift lever.

If it's just your shifter cable, use a Haynes manual to learn the adjustment process. It involves a lot of tedious removing, but nothing that you can't get done in less than an hour. That'd be your best bet.

If I have the time after work to scan the pictures on how to do it I'll pm you if you'd like. Again, if it's just the shift cable, it's adjustable, no problem. Better than spending unecessary $$$ on a p/n switch if you haven't ruled out the posibility of it being the cable first. Also, check to make sure that the switch cable is BEHIND the sift lever bracket. Most of the time that's the problem when you had just re-done the transmission if anything. But if that's now it, then I'll post up the instructions on how to adjust if straight from the manual.

Yea the p/n switch works. Like i said in a previous post i barely touched the damn thing it she moved out of park. So that tells me that the shift console isn't putting the transfer in park all the way. So i got to adjust the cable

Do you have a fsm for the car?
