screeching belt sound
I've been noticing this sound through out winter. First it was when i turned my heater on. So i thought it was the belt. But then i noticed this sound when i turn my music up (1000 watt amp). If i turn my music down, i'd hear the sound then 2 secs afterwards it goes away. It sounds exactly like a belt noise and if i rev or give the car more gas it increases just like a belt sound.
Any ideas?

anythings possible, take a look at the belts and go from there. i just did my alternator 2 months ago and it was coated in oil. i had 211,000 miles on it and was still working perfectly when i took it out. bearings were shot, squealing like hell tho.

I just went throught the same thing repl.aced both belts -no change ,replaced the belt tensioner- no change ,replaced the harmonic balancer -ding,ding we got a winner !!!!!!!!!! hope you dont have to go that far but be aware it could be the harmonic balancer-$$$ :

How much did that cost and was it easy to change?

+1 on the harmonic balancer. Had the same problem a few years back. Got the replacement off of Ebay for $65'ish.
Took way longer than it should've to get off because I had a problem with my tensioner. Otherwise would've only been a couple hours, taking it easy.

You might try some WD-40 on the shafts - won't hurt anything and might help at least buy you some time.

It may not be all of the problem (or any of it), but I highly recommend changing your serpentine belts if it hasn't been done...they're likely stretched, cracked, or worn...it's a cheap, easy job and can definitely be a source of squeaks. Sort of a good preventative maintenance type of thing...you don't want to snap a belt and lose power steering on your way home .
The belt running to the alternator/AC Compressor is a piece of cake to change...and you might as well get the one behind it going to the power steering pump while you're at it (slightly more difficult, but not too bad).
The former is self-explanatory because it's got a tensioner...the latter, you need to loosen a bolt on the power steering pump, then keep turning a bolt on the underside to lower the pump and consequently loosen the belt. Even figuring out things for the first time, it's no more than an hour job...if you've done it before, it's a lot less than that.

My problem started this morning, i crank the car up and notice this squealing noise, so i look at both belts, i just changed my alt and ac belt because it was worn and made the same noise. Now the powersteering belt looks worn out, so gonna have to replace that.
