Vq30 w/vq35 head
Ok so I'm new to this forum, I own an 99 Infiniti i30 that I'm looking to do a build on has the vq30. Needing help with suggestions to what's best, reliability, kinda just over all. It's going to be a DD and my family car. I'd like to keep ac and ps. I've considered keeping my vq30 sleeving the block and running forged internals with a vq35 head. Because it'll flow better than the vq30 I'm not sure what the compression would be if anyone knows or can point me in the direction to learn. Would be appreciated. Wanting to boost it but it's not gonna be a drag car I'd like to get decent numbers while keeping reliability and safety in the picture. I'm 20 yrs old starting off just needing some genuine help on how to get started and what's best. Thanks

I already have a second car along with a motorcycle currently the Infiniti has a blown head gasket so it's not being used anyway instead of just putting it back to stock was wanting to give it a little kick.

What's the vq35 have over the vq30. Besides a half a liter and like 20hp. Idk the specs but know they are close. Thought about a ve30 swap outta an 92-94 maxima with the cast iron block but ruled that out fast considering I'd literally have to swap everything on the car for that. And as far as I've seen and read the 6spd swap will bolt to a vq30 cause I already planned on that.

If you have to ask, it's probably not for you.
The 3.0 is a tank for turbo/supercharging up to 400hp iirc on stock internals.
Sounds like you want to go that road.
Hope your ready for the ride.
Boosting is never cheap and you'll probably wish you went with a RWD car after you spend all that money.
Just a little heads up on the 6-speed..get an '04+"06 is best" Nissan Sentra SpecV 6 speed.
They all come with HLSD.
Just need to swap to a maxima 6 speed bell housing.

I've just never looked into the vq35 I know they are quite a bit more expensive and for what I'd pay for the swap I could put into internals of the vq30 that I already have. Drove more than one boosted fwd car they're fun and in an Infiniti it could be a nice sleeper. Everyone around here is Honda guys and wanting something diff that I can play in a little. I read in another forum that the vq30 and vq35 run the same compression but the vq35 head flows a lot better that's why I mentioned the set up I did. I read that on stock compression (10:1) I believe with a vq35 head on a vq30 it'll be about 7.7:1. Idk of this is right or how to calculate it. I'd like to be around 8:1, 8.5:1 for boost purposes. If stock internals can hold 400hp. Going low compression and forged internals will put me well over what I could ask for.

IMO, a good breathing, tuned 3.5 will pull like a 3.0 with a 50 shot..probably better than that, but like I said..biased.
It's just a torque/power monster in the lighter cars..not that it wasn't anyways.

It's a 5th gen in the video I think, but either way VQ35 and imagine that with hlsd and a lighter car.

I'm not sure if my Infiniti is considered light lol but what does a vq35 swap run and happen to know if it would just bolt in and what all I'd have to swap. No matter what imma change the internals of whichever motor I go with it'll just be a matter of best bang for my buck. If a swapped vq35 boosted would be a better base and put better numbers for a reasonable price you've convinced me lol

If you're just going for a streetable car with a small amount of boost why would you want to spend the money on forged internals? It'll cost you a ton in labor and be a ton of work (I'm only speaking from experience here) some times it costs more than its worth. If you dont think 400Hp is enough than get a rwd or awd car and build it.
I would also probably just suggest getting the 3.5 swap, they are rev happy and faster stock than the 3L.

For reassurance persay to know that it'll hold whatever I throw at it, later down the road if I wanna do more or make it a drag car or something else I won't neccisarily have to tear apart the motor again. That and there's prolly 30+ cars around here that are all fwd making 500-800+whp. If I can make that for fairly cheap why not go ahead and put the money in now. Besides the machine work everything else I plan to do on my own. I'd like* it to hold about 20-25psi. And still be a dd. If I'm gonna do it I wanna do it right.

Well good luck with the build man, if you get it going it sure sounds like it'll turn out to be one hellofa straight line car. I get what you mean about the reassurance thing cause I'm doing the same thing now with my current build and I'm only looking to make roughly 250whp so I can still autocross it. (and no, its not a maxima. It'll be a suprise)

Dont even bother with boost. Boost+reliability+VQXX=oxymoron in most cases. For that matter dont even bother with pulling heads off and doing xyz amounts of work just pop in another VQ30 and keep it moving.

Boost a stock 3.0, or swap a stock 3.5, these are your ONLY cheap options.
A 3.5 with 3.0 timing will bolt in to your car.
