Should i fix my car or part it?

i got in a accident.... with a stone pillar... and my front left side is pretty messed up, the only estimate i got was for "well over $2000". Whats that even mean? and the other option is to part it out and get a car with 180k+ miles on it

what would be the smart thing to do?

$2k? Have you gotten a valid second and third estimate? If thats what its going to come out to to repair it, I say part it out and find another 4th gen. Here in LA, a clean 4th gen can be had for that price.

Any mods?

95-96's have a different front bumper than the 97-99's. Lotta 95-96 guys convert over to the 97+ front bumper. I thought you had the former at first.

As for the silver lining, have you ever heard of the phrase "Every cloud has a silver lining"?
Quick translation: On the bright side.

well if the chassis is not bent then u shd fix it.

the estimate u received is for NEW bumper, fender, and parts. Painted and installed.

All that stuff can be had from the junkyard for way cheaper. U prolly spend no more than 500 bucks if u go that route!

Honestly for a 1999 used car AND no insurance money lol...i wd just hit the junkyard and fix it myself.

It looks like jus body damage to me. But im not there. u have to look under the fender and body to see if the frame/chassis is bent.

If the frame bent then consider parting it out or junking the car. U dont have the expertise to fix that (even tho the frame CAN still be fixed by a body shop but its expensive).

If the frame not bent then its jus body damage and all u need do is replace the damaged parts. Shdnt cost no more than 500.

75 for the bumper, 100 for the fender, 75 for entire headlight assembly, 30 for the grill, 100 for the hood.

If u cant do it yurself have the junkyard pull the parts for u, so add another 20-30% for entire purchase. Then let a mech install for u. Then it will prolly cost 1000 bucks altogether.

2000 bucks is if its all new. A new fender alone is like 300 bucks. New Fender is like 600 bucks.

www.courtesyparts.com for genuine nissan parts and priceing.

take all that broke **** off, and if the frames bent pay someone to straighten it. then you can fix the rest yourself. junkyard ftw.

After you take off the bumper and fenders read page BT-37 of this Body & Trim manual to check if the engine compartment got bent.

In mid December I slammed into the curb of a bridge and bent the LF wheel and left LCA. After replacintg them I had it raised at a shop and used the last few pages of that manual to verify if the chassis got bent. Luckily everything lined up correctly.

mejiseike - i dunno? its a frame rail. if its bet you need to get it pulled back in the direction it was impacted.

That's peice of the body frame. If the body frame peice is only slightly bent it shouldn't be too much to fix.

From the pictures you posted earlier I estimate that the chassis wasn't bent so it's worth repairing.

EDIT:

On the outer right side of what you circled is the fender that's bent. Under that is the frame. Take off that wrecked fender to see how bad the frame got bent.

two people taking off your fender should take like 10 minutes tops. you probably wouldnt want to go about straightenin your frame on your own. pay someone to do it.

Fix It!!!

I would fix it if it was me, you can work with a bodyshop on what to order I've done it my self. I told them I would get some of the parts bc I can get them cheeper you have that right. If they tell u no then move on to the next bodyshop or do it urself n save more that way you can save money to get the whole car painted. You have a few options just do on paper witch way its best for u. Ask urself if the car worth it, are there any other work that as to be done that might cost u a lot. And so on.

$2000 at a body shop is fair estimate just to fix the cosmetics and paint.

I had a small fender bender years ago and it was $1700. New bumper, hood, headlights, grille, paint, with no frame work.

Sure you can go to a yard, get the parts, do all the work, go to Macco for the $200 paint job, and do it under $1000. But there is no way a real body shop would touch that for less than 2k.

Goto a junk yard and g et the parts.. It does not look bad at all honestly. You should be able to get all the parts for 500ish and a mediocre paintjob for 500 (with you doing the prep) Just my opinion
