overdrive question!!
ok so i have automatic clearly. and when i push the O/D button to off, should the light turn on saying O/D OFF? or does it not do that. ive noticed when i push the button out it doesnt change but if i move the shifter in a way the light comes on and if im goin at a certain speed the rpm goes higher. lately ive jus kept it in overdrive. can someone help me here!?

its suppose to do that, when you press the button it just lets you know that your out of the overdrive mode and the rpms do go up ive tried it before im not so sure the purpose of it though, but maybe someone else that knows more bout the purpose of overdrive might come through here and explain it more

Overdrive is your 4th gear or highway gear alot say. It optimizes fuel mileage n keeps rpms low. When let's say your coming to a quick hard stop I like to reach for the button n press it off to enable the transmission to shift down. In sense it's a good idea to leave it on unless you want horrible gas mileage and crazy throttle response on the freeway.

It's kind of important to know what everything on the gearshift does...lol
On our automatics, we can force the transmission into any gear by downshifting. Obviously 1 & 2 are the first two gears of our 4 speed auto. You can access 3rd and 4th gear by putting it in drive. And O/D on (No light on the dash) is 4th. O/D off is 3rd gear.
My suggestion is that if you don't know what you are doing, and you don't want to hurt your tranny, let the car do the thinking and always keep it in overdrive.
