Ah I was gonna do that but just left the struts the way I got 'em. Maybe when these come off for winter I'll put them like that. It's much easier that way.

I don't have them myself, but I understand the Illumina shock and spring combo rides pretty good, with a nice drop to them.

Ground Control's website has an option to specify desired spring rate. Not sure what ranges you can specify.
i would stay away from anything tein. had a few friends that ran teins ( basics and super streets) and they all say those coilovers are a waste. i would choose between KSport, JIC, or ground control. these three is just personal preferences.

Basics won't let you go that low since the height reduces suspension travel, which is retarded.

Best all around spring/strut combo Iv ridden on is what I had on my last max. Tokico illumias with Progress springs. I also had a set of MEP mounts/bump stop (I dont remember) on the rear. Had a perfect stance and the ride quality was amazing.

for my new 4th gen max Im actually contemplating saving up for the exact same combo or get some S-techs for the lower stance, but Iv heard nothing but harsh things about the s-tech until now. Saying illuminas on the softest setting will give the s-techs a nice ride sounds very encouraging.... might also save up for some coilovers....

I never said they'd ride nice but they'll definitely ride better with the struts set on the soft side.

A local guy had the same set up (S-Tech's/Illumina's) with them set on the stiff side (IIRC 4F/8R), told him to lower the settings and he said the ride was much better.

Cattman has that special sale on Progress Springs with KYB AGXs. I'm debating if I should buy that kit, depending on how much shipping costs are.

Ground Control said they can use an Eibach spring that has a softer spring rate. They emailed me back to call them up to see what my wants/needs were.

Yeah, that sounds like a good deal, only iv never had any experience with KYB AGX, theyre adjustable but I dont know how they would compare to illuminas....

Yes, Chrisman mentioned in post 13 on the first page:

"I'm on AGX's/Eibach's set at 3F/6R and on 18's."

Yessir thats my set-up. I also have Ben's rear motivational strut mount spacers, I believe they help with the ride factor.

i want to get new lowering springs. the idiot who had my car before me put on springs that didn't belong for a nissan let alone a maxima. i was told if i replace the struts (bc mine are blown) with factory struts, it is NOT advised to install lowering springs on factory struts.

how true is that?

That is 100% true. These cars can't handle drops on stock struts. If you're looking to lower the car you'll need some performance struts. You can get either KYB AGXs, Tokico Illuminas or Koni Yellows.

Is it possible to use something that gives a very slight drop (say something like H-Techs) on stock struts?

BTW- this is a great thread for those new to Maxima modding!

It's possible, but prepare yourself for a ****ty ride and blown struts in the near future.

What is the best *budget* way to get a slight drop (aside from the OEM 5-spd springs). My struts were new last year (put on by the PO).

Reading the propaganda from TEIN, they say you can use their H-Tech springs with stock or OEM struts. Is this just marketing?

Personally, I want to do an inexpensive slight drop to close the gap on the new 17's I just installed. Once I step up to 18's, that's when I'd go to coilovers. Just don't have the bucks to do it all now.

The best budget drop would be to find a used set of struts/springs from the classifieds.

I'm sure some cars can be dropped on stock or OEM struts, but Maximas cannot.

What about the special that Cattman has? $550 for Progress springs and KYB AGX shocks. The Progress springs doesn't have an aggressive drop either, I think 1.7Fr and 1.5Rr.

And several people said the Progress springs ride well.

Any drop over 1.5"F/R is "aggressive".

That's a pretty nice set-up there though, and for a great price too. I'd set the struts at 2F/4R and the ride should be nice.

i have a 1995 nissan maxima 3.0 engine.. I just replaced the water pump, thermostat and timing chain. When i put everything back together the car started fine. However it seems like i am not getting any power or spark to 3 of my coil packs.. Drives very sluggish feels like im in a 3 cylinder... Anyone have any sugesstions. I was wondering if theres a fuse or relay that controls the power to coil packs....

I dont think u can use any other springs with the car. Besides u dont want used suspension from the junkyard.

So, if you are lowered and the strut mounts need to be replaced......

sorry to thread jack but i am new to suspension too. alot of informative stuff on her btw. i pretty much have to redo my entire suspension once it warms up. Im not a huge fan of how high the stock look is. I want something that will look good lowered but also not make me bounce around like a civic with no wheel space. Is the progress/KYB setup a good way to go? I think it would be nice to be able to adjust seeing as I'm in chicago and would bring it up higher in the winter (stupid snow)

And Chris, you said something about doing 2F/4R. Does that mean a 2 inch drop in the front and 4 in the rear or do the numbers mean something different?

Again, sorry to thread jack ef9

I have the Illuminas, the drop isn't extreme and the ride is pretty comfortable. I'll probably sell them when I get coils in the next couple months

I've tried searching for info on Ksport springs but I've got nothing. Anyone know how the car would ride with Ksports and AGXs? I have an I30 if that makes any difference. I was recommended S-Techs as opposed to the Ksports, so if you've got any input I'd love to hear it.

That's what it looks like.
My question is, does anyone have any pics of the "drop" from the outside?

Edit: Wait, maybe not. After re reading what nhaven said about it, it looks like it just ads a half inch to the suspension travel. Will help keep your struts from bottoming out if you're lowered.
