PLEASE help, water pump coolant leak

i have a 96 max, recently antifreeze has been leaking from my car, after i shut it off. The leak looks like it is coming from around the oil pan, area. i am pretty sure it is my water pump, question is when i change the water pump should i change the timming chain, some people have told me yes, because it will start to slip, others told me no it will be fine.

So should i replace the timming chain along with the water pump ?

If you think that you got a lot of coolant on it than yes it's a good idea but I've done it without changing. It's always a good idea to change if you have the time and motivation.

If you are going that far, replace the tensioner and guides.

Whoa whoa whoa! Pump the brakes!!!

Unless u are seriously mechanically inclined, U shd NOT be attempting to replace the chain. It is a serious procedure that is dumb hard to accomplish with the engine in the car. If for no other reason than because the timing chain cover is a BISH to get off.

Also, the chain on our cars, under normal conditions, should NEVER need to be replaced. Period.

I dont kno who told u to replace the chain but if all u are doing is replacing the pump then u should not have to replace the chain.

Now on to the pump:

How do u know its the pump? Make sure all hoses are secured tightly. Check for worn clamps first. Check around the firewall side of the engine for the hose that goes under the UIM. That hose is a PITA and the clamp could be worn.

If u decide the pump needs to be replaced, GET OEM Pump. None of that aftermarket shyt that has screwed so many other org members. Go here www.courtesyparts.com. to get OEM replacement. If u get Autozone pump, SEARCH the org for reviews.

When u replace pump, be careful with the Chain tensioner pin. It has a tendency to pop out into the timing chain cover. THats when u REALLy will have some problems.

FOr 1995-1996 maxi u cant buy the old tensioner style that came with those cars. U have to buy the newer version. however, the newwer version requires u change the chain guides and everythin. MAjor PITA.

My advice, check hoses, replace pump, grease and reoil old tensioner, ride that bish till the wheels fall off, then jus replace engine. REplacing engine easier and cheaper than replacing chain guides.

I had the pump, chain guides, and o-rings done while in there. New engine was cheaper, but who's to say the replacement engine doesn't do the same thing.

My car only had 110000 one owner miles, so I felt it was worth it to replace those parts.

NO. Water has already washed the grease out of your WP bearings, catastrophic failure will soor follow.
Bars leaks is for heater cores, radiators, and haed gaskets. Even then its a band-aid and should not be used.
