Problem with rotary encoder
I am have been having the same problem with the volume control in my 1998 nissan maxima bose stereo. Recently, I was attempting to remove the ****, but the entire rotary encoder came out. I was wondering, can anyone provide a link to where to buy these? Are they universal, if not, could pick them up at an electronics store? Thanks in advanced!

I was looking for a cheaper substitute than the one already mentioned, but, that's okay, I figured it's only $20 which is much cheaper than a new hu. Or even an aftermarket, which isn't promised to have the same sound quality. I will be receiving this part on Wednesday and will attempt to repair it the same day. I will let everyone know how it goes! Thanks for everything!

Bose makes really good stuff and if you don't want to replace it I don't blame you. However, Bose stuff is really expensive to repair or fix and if you don't know what your doing you will surely do more harm than good. I did an install the other day on an audi A4 where a speaker had blown. The mounting bracket for it was an off size and the speaker itself was more than aftermarket ones you would get on Crutchfield. No other modern bracket would be able to screw in the door and hold even the most popular sizes of speakers. My advice to you would be to take your HU out and check it out. A wire could have got snagged or a connection could have broken on the board. A simple fix to both but you wont know the problem until you take it off. Do you know how? If not say so and I can walk you through it. Ive taken apart so many 4th gens its not even funny. hope this helps.

the OP may not care any longer but anyone experiencing issues with their volume control **** (like myself) is probably glad to have an actual part # to refer to. so, at least from me, kudos to the newbie for contributing something worthwhile and of value.
