3.5 swap is much more money than another 3.0 engine... dont you need the ecu obviously the engine, and you need to take into consideration what your motor mounts are going to look like once you pull out the old motor and account for any problems along the way..... 850 IMO is a lil on the expensive side, ive seen 3.0 engines with 70k go for 350 but thats just me,why is it everyone wants a 3.5?? is it the 30hp more?? or is it the oil consumption??

Um, arent the 3.5's rated at 255bhp. Compared to our 3.0 at 190?

1) You can use your 3.0 sensors + ECU by swapping the 3.0 timing equipment to the 3.5 engine.

2) Motor mounts are the same.

3) More power, more torque.

I think the 3.5 swap is a lil much no? I already started buying parts to do the 00vi swap guess I should put them up for sale lol. I was having trouble looking for a de-k swap how to. I found a few that a SUPER cheap some even have warranties for between 300-400. I also found one with 50k on it!

you tell me is this a good deal? the engine kinda looks bleh and its filled with leaves that makes me iffy http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/1816075495.html

For the 3.5 swap don't I have to prep motor? How hard is it changing timing parts? I can probably get a car for free while I work on the Max. I was thinking of getting a DE or DE-K if its simple enough to do the swap rent the harness from autozone and give it a whirl although IVE NEVER done something like this. Just bs like spark plugs, PCV valve, radiator etc.

Keep the ideas coming!

Here is another Clist car
http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/cto/1796126440.html
this one is 82k

Oh as for how it went.....this is a cautionary tale!!

For a couple of weeks my oil pressure warning light would flicker maybe once or twice a day IF that. Then it started getting more intermittent. I looked in the owner's manual yesterday because it was flickering like crazy and staying on for 30secs at a time sometimes more. I checked OIL levels was fine. I went to Queens (Am in North Jersey) about 80-90miles round trip well at the higher RPM range after 2,5k especially in first 3 gears I would hear a loud rattling so I kept shifting around 2-2.5k well on the way back from queens it got worse and the car would shut off if i left it in idle without giving it gas!!!

Soooo it got worse and I got scared because the sound went away for like 10miles then it came back worse than before. I pulled over off of an exit on 287 9miles from my house. I called my uncle today he said the crank is gone if I recall correctly. Never had anything remotely similar happen before, shi*t is crazy! lol

Interesting. Well, if you can find a motor for 300-400. Go with that option. If the 850 one is your only option, i stand by my 3.5 swap lol. I'd kill to put one in my car.

3.5 would be pretty awesome. More Torque. More horsepower. And you can dress it up more

I think the vq35 swap would be fun but just too much $$$$ if I have to pay someone to do it. I believe it may just be out of my scope of ability. I have no experiences with working on motors. Maybe with the help of a friend or two I could pull it off. Honestly, I'd be happy with a DE-K swap since it would most likely be easier or just another DE and do the 00vi swap since I have most parts already. Choices choices.

The motor which supposedly has 58k on it the dude said its been sitting for 2 years it was his brothers and it was totaled. He is looking for vin # so I can do a carfax. Do you think if its been sitting for 2 years its still good?

The dude with the 82k motor wanted $700 no thanks for that Ill get a 3.5 lol

OR should I sell/part out the car???

i understand that but im saying cost efficient for him would be another 3.0 because if he doesnt know what hes doing hes going to run into alot of small issues that most people dont know, or just say for instance youre like me and would want to get rid of t hose rusty nuts n bolts thats gonna be a pretty penny and the motor mounts may be the same however if they are bad you need to replace them, or how about the downtime to swap the 3.0 equipment from there to the vq35??

That amount of mileage sounds DELICIOUS!

But here is the thing you said it was sitting for 2 years, from what I remember you need to PREPARE the engine if you are going to have it sit for that long, like drain oil, fluids, ect. But if you don't then it'll be full of sludge and crap. I can only imagine what oil looks like sitting two years, other fluids that still might be in the engine.

Man u sound like me and i ened up going with a dek because if u blow a 3.5 motor u have to do the timing over everytime u blow it ,not saying the timing is hard but its time consuming and u have to be very maticulous ..........i went with the dek because its a straight drop in all u do is wire up the injectors stripe to stripe solid to solid and your done

I got a free '91 Oldsmobile Bravado I'm not a SUV guy by any means but its mint with 101k on the odometer + its free! So now I am at a cross roads....
do I part it out? Sell as a parts car? Do I put in another low mileage DE to learn how to do it, and then sell it? Or should I put in the motor and keep? Oh the choices....

Why would you ask us if you should keep the car? But I've spoken with a few people who always miss their 4th gens. Do you want something fast for cheap? Then keep the car and do a 3.5 swap since you have something to drive. That's what all of us would do in your shoes.

I'm surprised at the amount of people recommending a 3.5 swap. It is my no means cheap or easy.

I don't know but I read of lots of those engines burning oil. Some say that they only need to top off but I have never had an engine that needed topping off between oil changes.

I wanted power so I s/c'd my 3.0 lol.

I read that this morning and it scared the living daylight out of me. Very labor intensive, requires a helluva a lot of tools, and very easy to screw up a step.

Thank you someone agrees it would be out of my scope of ability or I would have to pay someone enough to buy a car for labor lol I think I am putting in a DE keeping as much stock as possible will help maintain its value. I think I would be able to do it myself or with the help of my friend its just a bolt on

I'm planning a 3.5 swap and was wondering what you mean about hating the timing?
