Rear baffle plates

Anyone ever replaced those shields (called baffle plates) behind the rear rotors? I finally replaced both rear calipers on my '99, they were not releasing completely for a long time, and noticed that those baffles were badly rusted through... Just remove the caliper and rotor? Or does the rear hub have to come off?
