Starter help

Hi whenever i turn my key all the way over nothing happens. I do not hear a sound. The starter had been clicking before and would eventually start but now not even a click. So i jumped the solenoid with a screw driver and heard it come on. So i thought it was the starter. I swaped it out with a use starter that i do not know if its good or not but its doing the same thing. The solenoid spins but it won't start. I checked the 7.5a fuse and it was good. Any ideas? Thanks

get the starter tested for free at an auto part store. kragen autozone whatever

i can usually tell without taking it to a machine

plug the thing in then use a jumper cable to give it juice.

youll see if its spinning fast enough.

My starter went out but the solenoid was still working fine. so remember just the solenoid function doesnt matter

if the starter works then it could be a fuse, describe all the lights that are working when you turn on the key
It could be the ignition.

Have you checked grounds for corrosion. I had similar problem but not as bad( would start eventually), found ground rusted to hell, cleaned and added another run of 4ga and all good now.

My brother told me to change the clutch pedal sensor should i check anything else?

The starter does not tick or anything. My grounds may be dirty with oil and grease but i think its okay because I'm not even getting a tick.

ok detach it from the engine, leaving it plugged in

does it make any sound at all when you turn the key?

ok what are the lights that come on, do the gauges work?

ok, underdash drivers side small fuses, and then check the big fuses up in the engine bay, check that big giant 70 amp one.

Ok well you CAN leave the plug in but detach the wire from the starter, get jumper cables straight from the battery to it. If it starts then its the wire from the battery to the starter.

definitely examine all the things that still function when you turn the key.

am i right when you say that you dont hear a solenoid, or a attempt to crank, neither right?

Funny, I'm seeing the exact same thing..My starter was replaced 3 months ago.

I turn the key on, I see the dash lights go on, but no ticking, no sound..nothing..sometimes if I just hold it for 2-3 seconds it kicks in and the car immediately starts (no whinning or cranking heard). Must be a bad connection somewhere.

It was just that the clutch was not hitting the sensor...lol it was a little rubber piece.

Hi , since i can't start a new thread due to me being new, thought i'd ask here..

I changed the starter last year and once in a while , while the car cranks, the starter seems to jam for half a sec; it cranks then u hear a "TAK" then keeps on crannkig then starts. All that in in maybe 2 sec, the car doeesn't have a hard time to start.

Thx for any info u can give.

Either the starter is going bad or it itn't getting sufficient amperage. Check all of your grounds for corosion and make sure everything is tight.

what you described sounds like a burr in the teeth of the starter. it could go on like that without getting worse until the end of time there is no real fix other than replacing it, or the flywheel that causes it.
