95 maxima ac compressor making noise after W/p install.

had a guy install my water pump last week and when i got it back i immediately noticed a bearing grind noise and it went away when i turned on the AC. its comming from the compresor.

what could be the problem? it never done this before he did the work. he said something bout my pulleys or bad ac compressor. we put a can of freon in the system cause it was a bit low i never put freeon in this car last 4 years so no leaks. and he said the high pressure side is low pressure maybe bad ac drier?

what could be going wrong? Thanks,

The bearing is on it's way out.
You need a new compressor or an attempt to put a new bearing in yours.

In order to install the water pump, the Alt/AC belt was removed. Quite possibly the new tension set on this belt when reinstalled by the mechanic has brought to light the pending demise of your AC compressor bearing or the belt tensioner pulley bearing. I would do a little investigation to see which one is going bad. The tensioner pulley is a cheap & easy fix. But you're right, the AC bearing not so easy.

Second checking the belt tensioner pulley. I got one of the washers flipped the wrong way on the tensioner when I put it back together causing a grinding noise.

how could i see which ones doing it? im pretty sure its the compressor cause it goes away right when i turn the ac ON. and how long will it last till i can fix it? i dont want compressor locking up and belt coming off across town.

do you have engine splash shields on you car at all? by not having those your compressor is exposed to water which will cause yuor ac compressor bearing to sieze up

Sorry to wake this thread up but I'm having the same problem now. What did you do. Change the compressor or bearing and how much did you pay.

its cheaper to just replace the compressor. I drove mine a good 6 months and 8500 or more miles with the noise but i just left ac on always. Good luck,.

tighten the tensioner bolt on pulley. mine was loose and also made a noise. with the idler pulley tight tighten on the bolt that put tension on belt and it should clear that slack up.
