1998 4th Gen Intermittently Engine Not Turning Over

I am pretty sure this has been covered in other posts. Having trouble locating that thread(s).

Basically you turn the key and the Max won't turn over.

- All lights are coming on on the dashboard
- Battery is fairly new, a few months old, Interstate, clean connections.

If you wait or keep fiddling with the key ignition, several turns, it finally cranks over, and starts up.

Happened years ago, and my mechanic (then) told me it was the key ignition switch on the steering column (700 f'n dollars). Replaced it then and it worked, for a few years.

Perhaps it is the ignition switch, something tells me it's not.

Thanks in advance.

This has happened to me twice during the past seven years. It is quite likely to be the ignition switch.

You can find a video about replacing the switch on you-tube. It takes less than half an hour.

The switch is about 30 bucks at your local auto parts store.

I recall instructions and pictures on this board as well. A better search will give you the information you need.

I would try the tip discussed at 3:48 before replacing the ignition switch.

The first thing you should do is find yourself another mechanic. The one mentioned above raped you, several times over, with no lube...

Before replacing your ignition switch, try pulling the starter and take it apart. Mine went bad and gave me symptoms of a bad switch
