How did you calculate your mileage?
Fill it up. Reset odometer. Drive till next fillup. Make note of odometer (say 200 miles), then divide that by the number of gallons of fuel purchased to get your actual mileage. Seems like you did some math wrong.

Yo man, I was gonna post a thread about 93 gasoline.
I regularly use 89 gas cuz its a lil cheaper and i refuse to put 87. I get good performance with the 89 and good gas mileage too. I also use the Chevrron techron so i KNOW my injectors and cylinders clean (advertisement plug hehe)!!
Saturday, I put 93 in my car for the first time. The car is a 97 5MT with 118k. The person before me abused tha car and never did maintenance. HOw do I kno? Cuz when i got it, i had to do a tune-up cuz everything looked old under the hood.
I drove with the 93 and i noticed serious MPG drop-off. Dont get me wrong, performance was better wit the 93 and engine felt better too, but the MPG was way off for hwy miles. Im switching back to 89.

I average 20mpg mixed driving, and almost 25mpg on the highway and I drive with a pretty heavy foot.
Something is wrong with your car. It has nothing to do with the octane grade of your fuel.
Either that, or you did the calculation wrong.

Make sure your odo is reading accurately.......it's calibrated on 15' inch wheels (and 205/65/15 tires) if you're GXE or GLE

lol yea i just checked and im a 100% sure that this is what i get.. even lower than 10 sometimes. so other than filling the car completely, i put 20$ of 93 which is like 6.3 something gallons .
i reset the odometer and after high 50 - low 60 miles the car is below the Empty sign..
however i just checked today and something really funny happened.
i have a bad o2 sensor from bank 2 and an egr code... so supposedly my "trusted" mechanic that i know for a while now says 550$ for both changed with original parts.
this just made my day -.-
im pretty sure i can get both for less than 70 bucks.. can anyone tell me from where tho?

Moving from Boston to a rural town in Western MA 7 years ago increased my MPG by about 40%. With not 1 set of lights in this farmtown I rarely hit the breaks. I had to change my discs & pads twice as often while driving in Boston.
The only drawback is we get twice as much snow than they do on the coast.

Hey scmaxima - 1st - for your O2s, try oxygensensor.com. I got some last summer - full set plus sensor socket for about $150 - that includes $25 shipping and $20 Customs to Canada. And about 8 days delivered to me. I got the Universal ones -saves about $15 each and you just splice the wires. NOTE - When I removed the Rear one, I found that the wire had abraded and was just shorted. I didn't see the wear cause of undercoating - check your wires closely first!!
NOW - for the mileage... Up & out here, we get about the same weather as Boston or NY - coastal mild but still Winter. I check mileage closely since gas here is about $4.00/gal. Right now I'm getting 14 mpg, since October; Halifax is a small city, lots of suburban driving, rarely over 35mph and lots of stop signs every 2-4 blocks. I check full tanks - 13 to 15 gal fill-ups. In October I got 21 mpg on a 60/40 hwy/city mix and in the the summer, I can get 18-19 city, 25 on mix and 33 hwy only! Seasons make a big diff to performance engines and stop/go traffic also.
As for Octane, we only get 91 up here so I expect mileage would be better with 93, but when I lived in OH, I comparison drove with 89 and 93 and got enough better mileage with 93 to justify the .08 /gal difference.
don't worry too much about the mileage, it's pretty normal for city driving. ...BTW, I used to have a Neon, I feel much safer in the Max. And my insurance co agrees, I got lower rates with the Max.

alright i see your point there , and yea ill just try the universal o2 sensor its really cheap from the place i can get it. and yea i noticed that weather does make a difference.. i get 8 mpg in the winter and like 15 in the summer lol
oh and btw a neon and srt-4 are completely different cars like the only thing they share is some of the body.. different engine, different chassis, interior, turbo, wheels, "safety" and it has dual side airbags lol
idk im just really interested in it lately.. ill probably just keep both for a while till i decide which one suites me better
