ebay coils -WARNING (long)
Do not buy coils from ebay, I just recently purchased all 6 for 180 bucks (yes, brand new) and here what's happened:
1. Rear bank coils somewhat larger than OEM on top and touch the walls of upper plenum, which is probably not a good thing.
2. Rear bank coil pin connector terminal is not a perfect fit for the female plug- plug does not to go all the way in and will not click.
3. Coils throw a 0201 code no matter what BECAUSE the resistance is not within the specs. Measured it between "IB" and "G" terminals and it showed 15 kOhms. Correct reading should be around 1.6 Kohms. Mind you, car drives just fine, but SEL keeps coming back with 0201.
I suspect the coils that I bought either cheapo made stuff or for a wrong car.
Here is what's written on rear bank coil: W0133-1614146, not sure if its Nissan part number or whatever, I just beleived to what the ad said- Maxima from 95 to 99 and bought damn coils.
If your coil(s) go bad, best solution is getting it from autoparts store and get a full warranty on the part, unless ebay seller offers you no-questions asked return option. DO NOt get fooled by exchange bull policy- exchange means you are returning crappy part and getting exactly same crappy part but few days later. Again, REFUND only.
Some people here on board suggest bying used coils to save money, which is total BS, use your brains for christ's sake- used coil may or may not be a slowly failing coil, you never know. And by the way, coil will NOT always trigger SEL. You can flame me for as long as you want, dear org used parts sellers, but please, don't make people gamble with used parts, ESPECIALLY electronic components. Want to get rid of your stuff? throw it in a trash.
Well, anyways, if you are curious how all this ended, I bought a Cyl# 3 coil at advance auto, put it in, and no problems so far, no codes, issue is gone. I simply was trying to get all 6 replaced because car has 300K on it and it is a good insurance, but hey, they say ebay sucks- very true.

i dont bother buying parts like that on ebay, i'll get those new from an auto parts store. easier to return if they dont work. i see that people rely on ebay to "save money", not always the bright thing and like the saying goes "you get what you paid for"...

yea you just had a bad purchase on ebay happens to everyone once in awhile not everything is perfect.
i bought my coils from ebay and they were just perfect i went with the used ones, only one was bad but that was ok since i just needed 2 coils so i have extras and i only paid 60 for all 6 go with real pictures and not the ad pictures. auto stores are the same for just one new one. and stores on ebays are not all perfect. you just have to be patient when shopping on ebay. sorry for your bad experience next time just go with the other sellers. good luck next time.

Also, exact picture of the item will not tell you anything about correct resistance between terminals or if it is a failing or already failed coil.
And, yes, I know I have been fooled by someone on ebay, but thanks for clarifying that for me.

well you see I heard folks bying perfectly good Knock Sensor off ebay for $39 that runs for $100+ at autoparts, so I thought what the heck.
I also heard people buy control arms for $50 a piece and balljoints failing within 30 days of driving- go figure.
Bottom line is do not "gamble", do not buy if you can't return.

Also without any gaurantees, between paypal and ebay you're bound to get your money back somehow if the seller does not give you what you paid for... Any ebay seller with a decent rep will want to keep it that way, just read listings carefully and bind the seller to his word.
eg. I brought a pair of used tires off of ebay a while back and the seller promised no sidewall damage to the tires, as soon as I left the store I got them installed at, I immediately had a flat because the belt was broken. I then contacted the ebay seller and he refunded half of the purchase after he saw pictures of the damage.

I would consider fooling around with non-OEM coils is shortsighted since OEM ones are not expensive $50/each... The last thing is to monkey with the heart of the ignition and firing system with OTC coils. Stupid & dumb exercise.
Having said that there are felons and creeps who trade on EBay. Beware!!!

I had the same thing happened to me. I recently bought 6 new coils from eBay from $190 from this seller: ufixitauto
After putting the coils in my 1999 Maxima, I got code 0201. That's after trying to make them fit since a couple were too big. I took them out and replaced them with the old coils and reset the ECU; no codes after that.
I tested the coils with a multimeter and I got resistance readings that were not comparable with the old coils.
The seller has agreed to refund my money so I am in the process of returning the coils.
Thanks for your post, acercomp71. I wish I would have ran into your post earlier.
Lesson learned, don't go cheap with electronics and buy OEM. Does anybody have any recommendation on where to get new OEM coils besides the dealer?

Naw man...ebay is good. It jus depends on what u tryin to get and the level of competence with the seller.
Honestly, i dont buy car parts from ebay that i can buy at Autozone.
At least AZ is reputable. With Ebay, you dont kno where the part comin from and its harder to return items too if not impossible. Uusally AZ got that lifetime warranty.
Plus i hate waitin for the mailman
The only car part i get from ebay would be the knock sensor. Those are good, we all kno that.
EDit:
Im on ebay now looking at those coils. SOme of them are specific to the Vin #. I dont see any for 150 bucks. All like 170+ bucks. At that price might as well hit a local parts store

I made a post about how bad ebay coils are. To this day, Many of the rears were bad out of the box and all have failed by now and 2 of the have failed. I only have 1 of the 6 (really1) coils that I got.

I feel for u, sucks when u buy something and doesn't work out. Hope u get compensated. I don't think your luck would be any better buying from a big store (kragen autozone pepboyz). As a precision electronic device, I think it's possible to get a few that don't work right.
I sold all 6 of my used coils for reasonable price (check FS forum). I measured the resistance and PM'd potential buyers. The eventual buyer installed them and I have not heard any complaints. So buying used is a good idea too.
Anyways, I'd buy from autozone or kragen cuz
1) lifetime warranty (at least they used to)
2) conveniently close -> instant fulfillment
If you want the best and don't mind spending $, Get Splitfire Coilpacks. You'll hafta do some research, but it's been done before.

I was thinking of getting these. Did you buy your coils from this guy? He has very good feedback from other buyers.

Don't buy aftermarket ebay ignition coils
Listen to the earlier posts and don't waste your time and money with these aftermarket ebay coils. One of my front bank OEM coils gave in 2 weeks ago so I baught a 6 pack from ebay. After driving less than 20 miles one of the front bank aftermarket coils blew. I replaced it with a used OEM coil I got from another member and it's worked fine.

Not to sound like an (rear end), I got my coils off Fleabay for $300, brand new OEM coils in their boxes.
They've been working fine for a long time now. I suppose I was lucky, or I decided not to skimp and go for something that looked as good. Good Luck trying to get the ~$180 back or something.
