ck engine light...VSC?

ck engine light...VSC?
I'll try to be brief, yet give enough info to ask for y'alls help... 1996 Maxi SE 5seed. Check engine light after starter replacement and induction clean/service(checked connections/hoses in drivers firewall area 
. Technician scanned error and said VSC (VSS)error...light on but no other performance issues other than cruise control won't indicate/engage now. He re-set erro light but said it would return after 2nd start...it did,after a short drive! Does the VSS have a wire connection on topside/rearward of my manual tranny with a "plug-in"/spade connection held in w/ one (10MM?) bolt?? If anyone has VSS part ## to share with info, it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!
