The first was saying that the Max is fast in stock form, but has limits.
The second was saying an oddity had occured, maybe look into it if you have an auto and feel a lack in power.
The third was me complaining about a highly modified Buick Regal being so far away by the time I got from 5th to 2nd it almost made me cry that I tried.

stock 4th gens don't stand a chance against a 3800 S/c'd
lol.. dont stand a chance? have you looked at their times? I've lined up next to Regals with my 3rd gen which is auto and I've given em all a damn good run, they should've left it in the dust considering the VG30e 3rd gen runs 16s. The Park Ave ultra is nothing but a huge slow boat with a S/C. GTPs are nice and are fairly fast but definitely not all that fast for being supercharged..
so yeah no, you sound like our fellow OP here.

I'm pretty sure he (TheBear) means on the dyno... Cause the bodies that the L67's come in are too heavy. I'd like to see any L67 line up next to me (@ a track) and beat me today.
Not knocking those motors @ all by any means, it's the only american motor I'd consider owning again (after owning SOOOO many of them).
I still miss the ol' oil burner/leaker @ times. The Blade lives forever in my heart.
Seriously, lets stay on topic here though... We can't have a Maxima on the road gettin beat by a Camry, this is unacceptable.

Aside from crappy plastic intake manifolds that go bad all the time, its a good motor. Its also been in Ward's 10 Best Engines for quite some years... Not knocking them, just didnt like that TheBear said the 4th gen didnt stand a chance lawlz

I've owned two cars with the GM 3800 motor and it does have some good power, but they are underpowered for the cars they were / are put in the weight of the cars kill the performance of the motor.
I liked these motors for a couple of reasons: gas mileage and reliability (at least in my experience) My first engine had 197,000 on it and the tranny blew up....I wasn't going to replace the tranny in a $500 car. The second car had 217,000+ on it and it ran fine and my sister's boyfriend is still driving it.
Wonder if this motor would fit.......ummmmm...never mind.....love the VQ in my max and this has been the best motor I have owned in a car.

I raced my friends 1998 pontiac grand prix GTP (supercharged, about 300 HP I think) and he was impressed I was able to keep up through 3rd gear, about 60 mph, then he started pulling away once I shifted into 3rd.
(ofcourse not on a public road)

hey guys..although it's A/T with 164k on the car, bought 3 months ago..treated very well,93 octane gas, every 2K oil change, changed KS 2k before,no CEL or hidden codes...I can't find why some camries are taking me over when moving from stop lights.where is the power that when I hear people talking about here in .org I think for a moment they are talking about a Porche ?
You must have something wrong with your car if a camry is beating you off the start, the specs. show that the nissan maxima destroys the camry in virtually everything.
to the op...wow. i just recently bought a 97 se auto myself.
that thing moves.
it might be able to hang with my q45.
there's gotta be something wrong with your car. could be carbon build-up causeing the engine not to work to it's full potential.
i admit i never wanted a 4th gen. but once i seen the price, tasted a lil bit of that vq juice...i guess u can say i'm hooked.
it's all about maintaining your car.
and aackshun i can agree with the gm's 3800.
those were pretty damn reliable. i think gm lost it once they stopped making the 3.8

idk. it was a picture i painted a bit that was sent to me by another user asking about his 00vi.
i have no idea wtf is in those red squares, they looked like holes in it to me.
no korea, you could tell if it was yours by the masses of red sealant on any holes in the manifold. lol
Those were most definitely holes. Part of the side of it looked like it was shaved down or something too. Looks like they put that 00vi on a belt sander or something and just went ape**** on it.
i have a 95 a/t with CAI, headers and y-pipe. i got beat by a ricer today with full exhaust and CAI -_-
brah its all about the driver, you're not doin it right

sighs...sometimes its not all about being fast, why try and be fast if you weren't able to handle it?? im not saying you cant handle it, im saying just learn how to drive and be fast...there's automatic 4th gen's running 14.9 with just a stillen pop charger...look it up on youtube...auto maxima vs 350z..just learn the car before you start pushing your car to the limit otherwise it'll be to late and youll regret it...camry shouldn't beat you, unless its the brand new ones, those are pretty darn fast...
2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Comp G?? hmmm, i swear i beat one of those before...
why are you posting in a 4th gen if it sucks?? i wish i had a 5th gen that was 230WHP and sold it or traded it for a Grand Prix GTP Comp G..hows your comp g feel compared to your 5th gen?? i heard those GTP's have a paddle shifter also and a really good overdrive....

Don't worry man , I know you're the king of the street ,I heard about you
Lets just say that at least I'm providing some sort of numbers that are publicly available rather than talking out of my *** and calling bull**** on something just because YOU own a GTP
And if you're gonna sit there and compare your vehicle to a 4th gen then you must be retarded considering they're two different animals with nearly 10 years apart. You didn't say you were, but apparently you must be since the numbers I posted are very similar to those of the 4th gen... In other words, you're saying a stock 4th gen doesnt "stand" a chance vs a 3800 s/c, you must be comparing your precious 04's 3800 S/C which I'm sure is a different series than that of one in a S/Ced GM in that same year range as the 4th gen.

+1, that's not the L67, which stopped in 02 IIRC... Back to the matter @ hand...
Maxcima have you done a compression test yet? If not do one on all of the cylinders and report the results.

but you posted times and said we were a whole 0.8 seconds faster, The 3800 s/c only has about 6lbs of boost, S/c'd maxima's with 6lbs of boost run about the same. thats if you want to compare some magazine times (GTP) vs maxima s/c'd (from the org). Just saying.

Drunkie you're gonna have a hard time praising your GM on these forums... I was a Honda fan boy turned V6 lover by GM's 3800, but after having power steering and oil issues with every single one I've come across, then I went back to Honda's again, then I discovered the VQ30's and 35's potential and with the better availability of a manual V6, I had to make the switch to the Maxima

Wow... it was just a comment guys. Really, personal experience... happened to me, I mentioned it because he was talking about being beat by a camry.
As for the GTP guy... you strike me like the Audi guy, you own those cars, goto that forum. Why come to a Maxima board and knock on them?
To OP, I just recently did an oil change and spark plugs and the car seemed to pick back up to what I heard them hyped up to be, the PO beat the car to crap and neglected the maintenance. Just a thought.
(edit)
And I agree, it's a Maxima. To call it just a car.... ouch. Your on a Maxima board man.

i know right! Drunkie diesnt know **** about maximas!
I test drove the 2008 4 cyl se camry this week. It is slow. There is something wrong with your car. Check your plugs, check for ks ghost code, clean your throttle body and change your intake if it is a long tube cai. You can try seafoaming it too to see if that helps. I remember when I first test drove my car after coming to then leaving the first light I asked the salesman, "Where do I sign".
I truly, support this reply.
I think there is a problem ther with your car, It can be a simple tune-up or a ghost code, but get the TB cleaned and the plugs a check-up, If the TB and the tune-up and the KS sensors and the o2 sensors will make a big diffrence in the acceleration. I personally never got smoked from a stock camry from any years auto/manual. The point Is there is something that is wrong and check it out.
