I got my first pair for like $25. My second pair, I ended up spending like $55-60. They are the best projector under $100.

Im going with the JNC mounting method, but instead of doing it like he does in his thread i will be fabbing up flush brackets that you adjust from the back.
it will be
Projector bracket attachment-----Steel----another L facing the back of the headlight so i can adjust everything from the back and keep it hidden. it will kinda look like this [, this was because my reflector is not flat like his and my brackets could not be easily hidden doing it his way that i could see in my mind.
sound good for all the critics?
gattling gun shrouds ordered tomm.

also, i had an inner battle between good and...rice... and decide not to buy angel eyes.clean and classy i will stay.

i ordered my shrouds this morning! finally caught up with my debt and bought a pair cheap. should get here tuesday, and then if i dont have work in the morning, ill do a quick retrofit and post some pics!

one last question though, i was gonna do my wiring harness due to my insane insomina that has lasted for about 2 weeks now.. and i cant find any threads about this black box.

it has 3 wires(red green black) running to it from the ballast and then has 2 wires(both black (live and ground?) going to the projector itself. it says "Nur Mit Lampe betreiben!"
i presume red is live black is ground and green is highbeams? but that would make no sense since they are not bi-xenon any light shed about this mysterious black box would be welcome.

im working on the theory that its a relay?

and it also says on this box 35w, i plan on running 55w bulbs and my 55w ballast. should i not to avoid the risk of damaging this box?

It's the igniter. Don't cut any of those wires. Don't even touch them. The harness ends at the ballast.

If you're going to connect a 55w ballast, connect it directly to the bulb. That black box is part of your ballast. Splicing any of the wires going into it or out of it is a terrible idea.

Your 55w ballast has the black box built into it (chances are it's a hella gen 3 knockoff). It goes wire harness > ballast > bulb

That 35w ballast is a gen 2, which goes wire harness > ballast > igniter > bulb

The 55w ballast replaces both your silver ballast and your black box. Trying to use the black box with the 55w ballast is a terrible idea. Your car will explode and you will die.

These things are HUGE! and pretty damn sexy. but i have one question, is the metal ring around the lens supposed to be showing? because it doesnt look quite right. and not that aesthetic.

Those look too big. On the retrofits website it states
Quote:
Fits with little or no modifications:
- TRS: FX-R bi-xenons
- Acura: TSX, RDX, RL, MDX (TL's with notch to clear solenoid)

- Bosch/AL/E46 bi-xenons
- Hella: E55 and RS6 low beams/bixenons
- Honda: S2000 AP1/AP1 low beams
- Infiniti: FX35, G35 Bi-xenon
- Lexus: RX330, RX330-AFS, ES350, SC430 low beams
- Nissan: Murano, 350z bi-xenons
- Many others (feel free to contact us and ask if you're unsure!)
Looks like to make them work you will have to get creative. Also by looking at the overall diameter of them, your may to have to trim them down a tiny bit to fit them into the housings.

i knew that when i opened them, hopefully i wont but, who knows, i got a dremmel here and a bit of creativity.

TRS Gatling Gun Shrouds

Description:

  • These Gatling Gun shrouds will add that finished OEM look to your HID Retrofit.
  • Will fit TSX,FX,TL,E55,E46,S2K,RX8,RX330,MDX,SC430 and many other projectors!
  • These may require some trimming to fit your specific application. (ie to clear solenoids etc)
they must not have put all the information down, thats what i get for taking somebodys word that ital fit something.

if i immitate the spacing of the housing and the shroud it doesnt look bad, but it still has that ring, anybody used these?

there are two different models of the e46.

There's the single-xenon low-beam only e46, which has IIRC either a 2 or 2.25 inch lens.

then there's the bi-xenon low/hi e46 (far more common version), which is the same bowl but adds a cutoff solenoid and has a 3 inch lens.

that shroud fits the e46 bix, not the e46 single.

i missed the fine print apparently on the ebay add. lesson learned and totally my bad, but it will be fine untill i can source a bi-xenon cheap and get a set of duels up in here! thinking x-mas time.
but does anybody have an ideas on how to cover up that metal ring, or should i just deal with it since almost nobody will even notice it.

Have you thought of painting that metal ring? With a high temp paint? It's about the only thing I can think of.

If it were me, Id be less worried about the that lens trim and more worried about the gap thats is between the projector and those shrouds. Totally kills the look and youd be better off not even using shrouds.

Id try and find a bezel that fit snuggly around the lens to fill the gap, something like this...

You could go to you local hardware store and see if you can find some pipe fittings that would work. They have some that are designed to cover up flanges that go under the sinks. Im sure you could find one to fit that lens. I found some to fit my TSX projector.

yeah thats the way im gonna have to go, just finished up the retrofit about 10 minutes ago and im waiting for the jb and RTV to dry. i mean, i mounted these things like a champ! sturdy as hell and they are dead even. but the shrouds, heavy modification is an understatement.
they look good enough and they will work fine untill my bonus at the end of november, good thing i got those shrouds from another source for like 30 less than TRS. but they do have a look of imcompleteness to them because of that gap.

im proud of the work though, including somehow getting those shrouds to look decent.
pics of finished product in a little bit and ill post cutoff lines tomm or tonight if i feel up to fine tuning the aim.(big white barn= perfect aiming wall)

thanks for the big help Flava and nalc, both of you were priceless in the final stages here, and thank you everyone else that was there in the begining.

Good to hear. When you mounted them and aimed the cutoff, you did so on the car without the lesnes and before you applied the RTV right?

yes and yes.
but now i have a huge problem
when i tested the lights with a 12v charge, they worked like a charm. now that i have the harness in my car, nothing works, but when i flick my brights on, the driver side propjector turns on but blue sparks shoot everywhere.
checked all fuses, im doing the same harness i had with my ebay setup that worked like a charm. all grounds and power lines are correct. its just when i turn my lights on i dont get jack, and when i turn on the hi's my driver shoots sparks whether or not its connected to a light.

hopping for a fast response, going to go check my grounds and wires again.

how would you rate the difficulty of the install process? on a scale of 10?
I am considering doing it myself or paying someone to do it for me.

And what method/tips can you pass along?

Looks good and in for the final pirtars!

hopefully pics coming soon, somebody stole my damn digi awhile ago and ive yet to replace it so i need to find one.

dont pay anybody, these things cost enough to pay some guy more.

install seriously was a 3/10 compared to the 00vi, it was so simple
to shorten the time it took i should have made all the brackets uniform in the very beginning instead of at the end when i couldnt get anything to line up right and had to remake 3.
get shorter screws, i got the 3inch ones not thinking and payed for it by having to run to the store again.
and tell my stepdad to organize his damn tools, took me 30 minutes to find the dremmel.
overall a very easy and fun project and i learned to tap holes very well, looking forward to finishing up a bi-xenon.

tip, makes the holes as close to the back of the housing as possible, its a tight fit in there even for a 2.25"
buy housing sealant, this ebay crap is practically falling apart, when i open them back up ill buy some sealant.
GET BI_XENONS!(i cheaped out and didnt listen to flava and paid for it), i cant use my highbeams anymore, cant aim them without the lowbeam part, but i dont want to anyways. these projectors are WAY better than the r34's hi's
make sure your shrouds will fit before you buy the, these gattling guns are WAY more trouble than their worth.
JNC mounting method, just do it.

i had that problem alot, these retrofits are search intensive

http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=35064

i tried to do the spring method first but lowes has no springs??

welll as long as you have a hi beam retro youll be fine. mine are just next to useless. i might open the housing back up tomm and just stick these fog H3's in.

i have no time and no money haha, that tuesday off was a huge gift. tomm i work 7am-1am for example..
pics tonight, gfs got them on the camera and will upload when shes gets back from her ride.
also, just got my new trunk lid and 2 new fenders freshly painted today,

OT question the trunk i got was from a infiniti i think because it had the electronic trunk release latch that wouldnt fit my 97 body, or did the gle come with a button release?
either way i had to swap the locking mechanism. what gives? it refused to close.
