After installing a new KS and resetting the ECU, the CEL came on a day later after commuting. I pulled an 0505 code? I reset the ECU again, and it came back again a second time a day later after another 50 mi commute. If there's nothing wrong why am I getting a CEL with this code and how can I make it stop??
Ok, can do, but why should this code show up now? It wasn't there when I pulled the 0304 last week. I had pulled an 0707, but that went away when I reset the ECU after changing the KS.
If you are checking the codes yourself from the ECU(I assume you are) then 0505 means that you have no codes stored in the ECU. Why your CEL comes on when you have no codes I have no idea

I always reset the ECU myself. The point here is can anyone tell my what would set off a code that wasn't previously stored in the ECU after the installation and ECU reset?

Has anyone else had this happen??
Yes, it's happened quite a few times.

Who knows why it shows up randomly, just like NATS failure, there's no one specific incident that causes it to occur.

Ok, thanks. At least it's not specific to me at any rate. It's been two trips and no CEL, so just maybe it will go away by itself this time. (Now that I said that it will probably show up later)
That said, on a seperate issue, the ABS light has been on as well for the last month. Chiltons had a bunch of possibilities, I think most related to some sort of possible solenoid related problem. Easy to check? Is this a reasonably easy DIY project?

Have you not checked the ABS codes? There's no point in trying to diagnose a problem if you neglect to listen to what the car is trying to tell you...

Have your charging system tested, check battery terminal connections, etc.
Checked the charging system at the battery yesterday. Off: 12.6v , On: 14.7, right where it should be. The CEL came back today. I need to check the codes again, but assuming another 0505, any thoughts? Resistance too high somewhere? Testing the alternator looks like it's done from underneath according to Chiltons, so that's out for me.
yea i just got code today after a ecu reset .. i have a hard starting issue that i have made better but still needs some tweeking any update on your ghost 0505?

I checked yesterday in fact. This time only the 0707 (Rear O2 sensor) flashed again. On one of my earlier posts I did mention the 0707 flashed after an ECU reset, so I'm not totally surprised it came back. At least no more 0505. I did pop in new NGK's last week if that matters. This whole thing started when I took the car up around 95mph one night on the Tpk.
I also used pmohr's grounding reference diagram (thank you) to check the ABS codes. Nothing came up and I cleared the ABS indicator light (touch #4 & ground 3 times inside of 12.5 sec.) Ran the car and everything was ok. Until this morning that is. Came back on at startup. I can try it again, but I think there's an issue.
FWIW, the ABS light went off while driving this morning and was off while test driving at lunch. Don't know why, but I'm not complaining.
