Brake/battery light on.. alternator right?
Both came on at the same time yesterday and a quick google search yielded the alternator as the problem, I just want to confirm (This is in a 98).
What should I buy and where should I buy it from? Also the guide in one of the stickied threads is not working so if anyone has a link to one for a 98 max I would appreciate being able to see how difficult this is going to be. Thanks.

you are correct sir. its not that hard if you plug & pull the rad.(I prefer not doing work on my back if it can be avoided.) it can be done in 1hr or less. I would buy from napa above most other sources. AZ has a rep for selling bad ones.

Yes, it's the alternator (most likely).
Where you get it from is up to you, personally I wouldn't get a reman unit, brand new only.
It does seem that motorvate is screwed up again.

Just note that you do not need to pull the fans, it just gives you a little more room to work.

There is a alternator recall for Maximas manufactured between February 13, 1997 to February 27, 1998. If it was manufactured between this time then a Nissan dealership will replace it at no charge.
My 98 Maxima SE had a new alternator installed several years ago.

It seems like people have already answered your question, but yes it is most likely the alternator. The same thing happened to me (95 maxima) about 3 months ago. I pulled the fans to give me more room. It takes about 5 minutes compared to the scraped and soar hands you will be dealing with for a week other wise. I put an autozone one in and it seems to work fine (knock on wood), and it has a lifetime guarantee. It's about 130 less then something from the dealer!
