Idle speed at 500 at stop

no code, and mine is auto trans
I used to have a ford taurus v6, when I stopped on a slope, it will move up if I don't put my foot on brake. but for this car, I have to put on gas to hold on the slope. It seems that nissan has a weaker engine than ford.

How would a clogged EGR guide tube (assuming that's what you're referring to, since you didn't mention anything specific) affect the idle speed? The EGR is not functional at idle.
Did the idle speed lower over time, or did it randomly happen? Did you do anything immediately prior to noticing the low idle?
Have you given a thought to properly adjusting the idle?

I have an auto. It did idle around 500 rpm in gear at a stop (no a/c). There was a slight vibration too. Higher idle and less vibration with a/c on.
I cleaned the MAF and that actually bumped up the rpm by 100 or so. Less vibration. I am considering adjusting the idle up another 50 or 100 to completely get rid of the annoying vibration while in gear. Checked the motor mounts and everything is good.

About EGR, a buddy on org took a look at my car and thought that might be a clogged EGR problem.
I just owned this car for 2 months, not sure what's the situation in the past. I just noticed it recently after I came back to atl where there are a lot of uphills and downhills. when the car stopped for light on a uphill, sometimes it can't hold position with gear on 'D', idle rpm was at 500. then I started paying attention to idle speed. it does this randomly, 30% of the time.
adjusting the idle speed? good point, but I need to make sure the low idle speed is a symptom of some malfunctions.
thanks for your input

I believe it's not cleaned in the last 60k, the previous owner did nothing to this car. I doubt he even changed oil in 3k.

Auto idle should sit around 550 and 650 with no a/c. May have a slight IACV clog or a vacuum line may be leaking a little. Its such a small amount that I would just adjust the idle up a bit.
#24
yeah, im sure at 195,000 miles that the engine runs a little rough even though i do an oil change every 2,000 miles. and, i have an k&n air filter which does need a cleaning and a respray. the idle is all the way up, so i need to do a throttle body clean out. tomorrow.

Myself, I have the same problem however, I think it may be transmission-related, as my CEL tells me something about my VSS (which I've replaced already) and something about a signal to the transmission computer.

I agree with the 550 and 650, but not adjusting the idle up just to cover up the problem. It could be costing you power, gas mileage, etc.

oh and a 50 rpm difference could be so many things. all of which really arent hurting the engine. Hell it could be a vacuum leak the size of a pin hole, the idle screw moved a tad, there could be a small bit in the IACV ect. Its not like hes moving it up 200 or anything.

welcome to the world of the p0400 code. Its a *****.

and isn't P0400 an EGR code?

Its the VSS code right.....I have that. Changed the VSS, cleaned and tighted down the terminals on the speedo. I dont think it will kill the tranny.

I don't get your logic at all.
