Is she worth the $750 ??

I'm debating this seriously....

I found this car down the street from our house, for sale $750 reads the sign. I called the number and spoke with the owner, clean title, current tags, Freezing! A/C, but the tranny is stuck on 2nd gear.

I liked the fact that its black leather interior. There is minor or slightly damaged seats, but everything looks good.

Is it worth fixing the tranny and flipping it for some little $$$$ ??? I'm looking with fixed tranny, and the exterior looking beat up, I could possibly get $1200 on it.

Or am I better off just parting it out? I care for the interior more than anything (i'd probably swap my nasty tan interior for the black)

I probably have someone who can do the work for me, literally free, and I have two spare auto trannys around. I just dont have the "know how" to do it myself.

What do you guys think.... YaY or NaY ???
Let me know... I cant really decided...

I think I read it correctly and it looks like its in the 200,000 area... I didnt ask the seller (i didnt want to sound too interested in it), I already have 2 maximas (3.5swapped auto 4th gen, and 5spd 4th gen),

Would it be worth parting out parts??

I would try to get it for 500 and then have my mechanic friend put the good tranny in it and then sell it and try to make a profit.

I would say offer $500 and then you have a deal. I wouldn't pay $750 with intent to flip it. I see way too many on CL these days for sale in the teens. Not worth it unless it was something you wanted for yourself.

man, for $750 it would be gone... idk what everybody else is smoking... mild body work and your good... even if it has high mileage, all the better, get a DE-K and use the cams from that motor

I would buy it for the black leather (if its really worth it to you) and then part the rest. Youll get most of your money back if not all and then also have a nicer interior for yourself.

Yes, but of course you're kidding!

95 Maxima, bought on the day of the program's demise, no way it would qualify.

4th gens get 21 mpg as far as "The Man" is concerned. So no cash for clunkers.

I would try to talk him down on principle, cuz tranny work is expensive (he doesn't have to know whos gonna do it ). If you wanna flip it you could make a few bucks but would it be worth the work? Have you swapped trannys before?

unless your going to use it as a beater I don't recommend trying to sell it. Its been used and abused it has high mileage needs tranny work, and not as important could use exterior work. Your going to invest a bit into it. Not only that but what about other issues that aren't apparent now? On the flip side you could find a running max most likely in much better condition for 2,000 or less

wasnt looking at getting a beater, heck my car space is very small. as it is my two 4th gens and my wife's car leave us with little or no garage space at all.

I met up with the guy today, with $550 cash. (I was gonna push $500, and if not go $550 most), anyhow he's stubborn and wont go down.

I wanted to flip the car for a few hundred bucks, only because maxima's sell real well in border towns. That or I would of sold it for an extra hundred or two to a mechanic buddy of mine. I just wanted to swap out the interior and then sell it with a beat tan interior (matches the beat up exterior) for either the same price of $750 or maybe $860 or so....

I gave the guy my number... told him if he changes his mind to give me a call. If he doesnt its no big deal... i'm researching boosting the 3.5 auto 4th gen sometime this year, so I can use the money to fund my project.

Very wise choice you made, he will most likely call you by the weekend or so.

I didn't see that it had 200k miles. skip that. if you could get it for $500 maybe, sell it for $1000 with a working trans but then you have to consider what the trans itself is worth, did you just put more money in parts (i.e. how much a working used auto is worth) than the profit you are going to get out of the car?

We have two auto trans sitting around (a few years back we purchased some incase) our Nitrous powerd maxima's original trans would go out. Never did... the engine went before the tranny. So we have the spare parts...

But I thought about it last night, I can get the work done free, or at "homeboy" price, but even at that... I think it would take a while, knowning that it's "homeboy" price means, he'll do it pretty much whenever he feels like it. So I could have the car up and running between 2wks and months.

I'd rather not hassle on waiting til he feels like finishing it. If he calls, he calls.. and if he doesnt oh well. I dont lose anything.

But I appreciate everyones input... knowning myself I'm big impulse buyer. But I'm glad I had the forum to get some opinions from other maxima owners and enthusiast
