Yesterday I was replacing the light bulb in my passenger side door when something strange happened. When I removed the light, i put it back in and it wouldn't light up. I thought I blew the fuse, but I tried putting a 194 LED in and it lit up! The LED was very dimly lit, though. As if this wasn't enough, when I went to close the door, the light stayed on!

I decided to break out the multimeter to figure out this mess. When the door is open (when the light should be on) the socket should put out 12v. When it's closed (when the bulb should be off), no volts. Instead, the pass. door socket is putting out 8v when open and 12v when closed.

So could this problem be related to why the incandescent bulb doesn't work, as well? Anyone have any ideas?

I am going to venture a guess that your door switch is messed up. I have not had one of these apart, but if its like most micro switches. The inner parts have broken, and now are shorting across each other. I know it does not make sense, but if it is broke inside and laying at a particular angle it can act almost in the complete opposite of what it is suppose to. When you are getting the low voltage the contacts are not setting very well. I would take your multi meter and test the switch for continuity on and off.

Is it just that one door light not working properly, or them all?

The door switch is a somewhat plausible explanation if they all act the same way, as if the door was open.

However if it's just that one door, BCM failures have been seen to cause such odd behavior. Especially when one goes tinkering around putting LEDs in.

i had this same problem last year it turned out to be that it had rust in the inside of the switch i took it off cleaned it with som wd40 let it sit for a while and wallllllaaa it was working again hasent gone bad since

It's just this one door light. The driver's side works fine. I tested the voltages of the driver's door for comparison.

I did the same thing!! I left the battery connected/door open when I installed the new bulb, and I think something shorted...It's officially been like 3 years now. Let's see if someone can fix this for us.

I have this same problem except its with my driver side. I even tried swapping out door switches and same thing.

this sounds similar to a problem I had, and I came to the conclusion it was a bad BCM.
I'm not sure though, since I haven't changed it out.
If you have the resources I would give it a try.

lol got the same problem, i was tryin put in LEDs from superbrightleds.com and it happened, couldnt figure it out, figured some shorted at first, IIRC the halogen bulbs worked in mine, so idk, i was goin try buyin two LED boards from a friend to c if maybe those worked, but with ure switch idea, if im thinkin of the right switch, if it had shorted wouldnt that play with the dome light too?

problem except its with my driver side. I even tried swapping out door switches and same thing thread insert helicoil
