Indeed.

A == Open
V == VLSD
H == HLSD

HLSD == Helical Limited Slip Differential.

Basically it uses gears to assure torque transfer instead of a viscous coupling, such as found in the 4th and 5th gen VLSD 5MT (RS5F50V).

There was never an HLSD trans available for the A32, only A33B-A34 6MT, the RS6F51H.

Here's what the diff looks like, notice all of the extra worm gears along the top and bottom:

Some reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited...rque-sensitive (overview) and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited...e_differential (more in depth)

I sure hope I wasn't the one who designed the placement of the KS, or I'll have to kick my own ***.

Actually, the ks is mounted in the best place to listen for knock, the failure imo is in the k/s design, the engineers/manufacturer of the k/s failed in making the part out of substandard plastic. I've seen several(including my own) k/s on the ve30de engine where the k/s was literally melted down into a indistinguishable heap of plastic from heat damage.

BTW, the VE30DE k/s is the same part# as the 4th gen VQ k/s.. and is mounted in the same place..

Yep, seen a few of those myself, nice and melted.

Well it's not so much the KS placement I was complaining about, just the procedure to get to it.

Then again, if I designed the car, everything would be held in place with latches and V-bands, heh.
