fail safe mode

I'm having some issues with my 95 max. It won't rev past 2000 rpm. I have no CEL. So far I've checked the MAF and the ECTS, both seem to be fine. I haven't checked the wires between these sensors and the ECM but before I go and pull the dash apart I was wondering if there are any other sensors I should check that might be causing this problem.

No need to pull the dash apart to probe the ECU connector. It's easily available.

How does the MAF 'seem to be' fine? Have you actually tested it, or just looked at it?

Does your CEL work?

My vote goes to a bad MAF

Yes I tested it following the proceedures in the FSM so I know it's not the MAF.. I need to verify the CEL light, I was just thinking about that. I am going to get my buddy with a consult to check it for me at lunch, I will report back.

So thanks to pmhor's sig I found my ODBII port and corrected the problem by erasing the codes.
I had ECTS and knock sensor codes.
Thanks.

My check engine light will not go on. When i turn the key all the dummy lights go on except fopr the CEL. My car will not go past 2000 RPM's. I have a 1996 max 5 spd. I replaced the MAFS and still no fix. Any suggestions?

Must you bump 2 old **** threads? Cripes.

Seems as if your CEL is out. Run some codes using a code scanner... report back in the newbie thread.

I'd rather him post in the newbie thread, as I stated.

Where is the Newbie thread???

96 max se 5 spd.
will not go past 2000 rpm's in any gear.
Changed the MAFS and no go
I am reading that I can possible erase the cdodes and reset the ECU? Is that correct. I came back from the dealer and they wanted to put it on the Diag but from what I am gathering that will not necessarily detect the problem. Unless my old MAFS was bad adn the new 1 (after market) was bad too I do not think that is the problem.
Now my CEL does not go on when I turn the ignition partial (when all of the dummy lights are supposed to go on.) The CEL used to go on and off for years - had the car for 12 years and has 242k on it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please say in laments terms though - I am not good with cars but I do know my car's quirks!
