Lowering Cold Start Idle

I am assuming the Coolant temp sensor determines the cold idle speed, and lowers it as the engine warms up, but i was wondering if I could effectively get rid of the cold start idle by bypassing the CTS. If I bypass the CTS will the lower idle effect anything negatively? Yes it will take longer to warm up but what else? I dislike the drivability when cold, and wouldnt mind saving some gas. I could be off about this but I am curious to find out more, and I couldnt find anything relavant searching. I would like to hear some others thoughts about this, thanks.

You're going to have more changes than just a lower cold idle if you completely remove the ECTS. The ECU uses the coolant temp input for more than just a higher cold idle, including cycling the fans and detecting an overheat condition.

You could try adjusting the FITV/FIC, but with mine completely bypassed I still get the typical cold idle sometimes. It's an ECU thing, you can't do all too much about it.

Oh man I dont even know what i was thinking. The fans rely on that sensor, and yea, overheating conditions wouldnt be detected, not worth risking. Whats the FITV/FIC? I would look into the FSM but im not at home/on my computer. Thanks pmohr.

The Fast Idle ThermoValve/Fast Idle Cam.

It's on the TB directly beneath the main throttle cam:

I have my fast idle cam set to give me about a 1500 rpm cold start.
I've seen some VQ's shoot upwards of 2500 rpm's on cold start up.

Mine shoots to 1,700. So this is normal? I was going to make a post about it eventually because it didn't used to do that (before I went 00VI and then de-00VI). It gets down to regular idling range in like 10 seconds, but I always wondered why it shot so high up.

1700 isn't that bad, lower it if you like, or just leave it be.

What should it be? Do we know that? Is it in the manual somewhere? This is my stock TB, I didn't play with it when I took it off for the 00VI swap. But I also don't recall it being that high before.

Look at the picture pmohr put up, there are marks on the cam and follower that should align when cold I believe. The info is in the FSM.

I did not set mine that way, I tweaked it to the ~1500 rpm cold start.
Setting it up with the marks resulted in a higher rpm initial cold start.
